  • Timeline Scrolling and Audio Mixing on the fly

    Hi,

Is it possible to play a timeline in Avid without the position indicator disappearing off the screen? I’d like the timeline to scroll along when I play it so I can see what’s going on – can’t seem to find the command for this!

Also is it possible to add audio keyframes (or nodes) on the fly to speed up sound mixing ie if the timeline’s playing, can I use the audio sliders to adjust volume adding nodes each time I move my mouse (and not just change the audio for the whole clip).

Sorry if these are silly questions but I can’t get my head around where all the commands are which Media 100 will do using different terminology!

    Thanks in advance

    Alex.

Sadly, they took that option away when they left the Meridien platform. They have added it back as an option in the Symphony Nitris, not sure about Adrenaline though.

I’m pretty sure you can add keyframes on the fly – you’ll have to have auto gain on (in the timeline window, bottom left fast menu, select auto gain), and map a keyframe to your keyboard (should be there – double click ‘keyboard’ in the settings tab and look for the triangle). Remember to have only the audio track(s) you are working with selected. If you have the video track selected, you get a beep. For the scrolling timeline, double click on the ‘timeline’ setting and see if its there. Keep in mind to have “All Settings” selected in the fast menu to see all your options.

Finally, you can save this timeline view – there’s a pulldown menu lower center – should say ‘untitled’. Click, select ‘save as’ and name your setting.

Scrolling timeline came back in MC 2.5, Xpress Pro version 5.5.

Plus, you can use the audio mixer to add keyframes–you have go to the Automation Gain tools, enable the tracks you want to record to, then hit play. As you adjust the sliders during playback they’ll automatically add keyframes reflecting your changes. You won’t see them until you stop playing though, if I remember right.

yes, you record the automation gain. Mark an in and out around the section you want, arm the tracks you want, then go into record. After you are done you will see a ton of keyframes in your audio timeline. You can also manipulate these after the fact and adjust them individually or in groups.

I know this is a very old post. Just wanted to add that if you mix on the fly you also need to change your MIX MODE to AUTO.
