Plus if you are an employee, it is much harder to fire you.
You might get laid off but then you might be eligible for
unemployment. As a free-lancer they can get rid of you
for no reason and you have no re-course. Same work
more security. -

I think whatever system you are on you will have to unwrap it to make a file that AE will read. PPro will not read the native .mxf file and I don’t think AE will either.
So if using FCP just import in the P2 and use the file that FCP creates.

An XDCAM is so specialized that I doubt you
would get a big call to do other work
for other producers. It’s either a
VariCam or HDCAM if you expect to get other
shooting gigs. Otherwise I would just find
a owner/operator and cut a good deal. -
There are far too many post houses that would love new clients. I had that attitude with a few clients and they went elsewhere. Did I really need or want that business?
I don’t know but the point is – The video post industry is a service business.
You don’t serve and the clients will EASILY find a new post house that will serve their needs, no matter how picky. -
Thats interesting, Gary Adcock was telling everyone at a Dallas Apple seminar that he could not do that. If that is true then you could edit a spot and then re-load onto the card and go to another post house that has an HD deck and record back to that if you need to???

Those are the kinds of things more potential fencesitters need to see.
Yesterday in Dallas, Gary Adcock gave a seminar showing a three-screen split
of a Z1, HVX200 and the JVC. Once motion gets into the equation then HDV is a thumbs down. It might serve a purpose if you are shooting test charts or a static vase of flowers. I am afraid that when I videotape events and such the people or the things I am taping usual move??!! I am working with a producer who shoots HDV but most of his stuff is corporate training and has no intention of producing for TV. So far all he is shooting is DV. My intention is to produce TV spots and docs that will hopefully get to the broadcast realm, I think the HVX is the most logical path I can find.
