“Why are you shooting two different frame rates? Stick to one if you can. We shot 60P for the purpose of slowing to 23.98 in post.”

Experimenting with the look first and foremost.
I need to get a larger external monitor for my
PB. We are being contracted to shoot some
stock footage. The producer wants 1920x1080p
so they will have the largest sell through.
I have worked with them with the DVX for years.
I just need to find a look they like and stick
    with it.

Thanks Walter I will look at that.
Plus I am trying both 24PN and 24p footage from the HVX.
Is FCP 5 able to use the 24PN footage without rendering?
All the clips will PB fine in QuickTime.

I have a new 17″ PB and I am use to burning 8x or 16x
on a PC. Is there a faster external DVD burner
that works well with a PB that anyone can recommend?

    What is the tape format??
I have received spot masters on BetaSP
from agencies and not one tape ever
had consistent audio. If I set the
playback to tone on 0db the
spot audio could be -12 all the
    way to +20.

So the answer is I don’t know.
But I would keep the levels
a little hotter vs. too low.

In 60i yes the DVX is somewhat noisy. When you do to thin and reduce the detail the noise will almost go away. Have HVX users found any difference in the noise when shooting Thick vs. Thin??

Have you looked at the footage on other monitors??
Perhaps the 720p footage is getting scaled up
in an unacceptable manner? Can you set the monitor
or the AJA to show 720??
Try making an SD DVD of the footage and looking
    at that on a CRT.
You you shooting in Thick, Medium or thin??

How did you remove the noise in post?

Good questions!! I wanted to go AXIO but the Matrox rep at the show
I went to had a big question mark over his head when I asked
about P2. He was asking if I had a DVCPRO HD deck!! Yeah right!
I have a $21,000 deck sitting around next to my $65,000 VariCam – NOT!
Apple gets it and I went to the Apple show the next month and got
a demo with the HVX and P2 workflow. Most of my effects work is done
in After Effects anyway. For most editing FCP will work for me
as I do not edit with clients anymore anyway. (Lucky me!!)

I would consider a different editing solution. If you want to shoot and edit HD without going broke then P2 is the way to go. You could use the workarounds suggested to edit P2 on the AXIO. Until Matrox or Adobe “get it” I am afraid you will be stuck renting a VariCam and using DVCPRO HD from a $21,000 deck or god forbid – shooting HDV!!

I was a DigiSuite user since 1997. I have a Mac and FCP on order.
