DVCPRO HD on Powerbook
Posted by Mike Schrengohst on March 2, 2006 at 3:21 pmI have a 17″ Powerbook, one gig ram, 7200 Internal drive.
I have the HVX-200 and have been trying to
edit in 1080i. I do an easy-setup to DVCPRO HD 1080i.
The P2 file import and makes the .mov file
the .mov file is there but it wants to render.
I have been back and forth looking at
sequence properties and noticed it
will be changed from time to time.
I have been able to see one clip
I have shot but cannot figure out all the
exact settings I need .

March 2, 2006 at 3:27 pmMake sure you’re not using Sequence 1 from your new project. That would retain the old settings from when you first launched FCP. When you went into Easy Setup and changed over to DVCPro HD 1080i that would affect every new Sequence you would create from that moment forward.
When I use Easy Setup in a new project, I immediately trash Sequence 1 in the Browswer and create a new Sequence.
If that doesn’t work, then you have a mismatch between your footage and the Easy Setup you’re using.

March 2, 2006 at 3:41 pmThanks Walter I will look at that.
Plus I am trying both 24PN and 24p footage from the HVX.
Is FCP 5 able to use the 24PN footage without rendering?
All the clips will PB fine in QuickTime. -

March 2, 2006 at 4:14 pmYou should consider shooting in 720/24p. It all depends on the look you are going for.

But if your sequence settings are 720p24 (23,98) you won’t have to render the 24pn, but rather any other format you add. That is the nature of the beast. I am mainly working with 24PN footage, but have 60P footage that we intended for slo motion work, and also just to cut at normal speed. When I drop it into the timeline, I have to render it, because the settings are different.
Why aer you shooting two different frame rates? Stick to one if you can. We shot 60P for the purpose of slowing to 23.98 in post.

Experimenting with the look first and foremost.
I need to get a larger external monitor for my
PB. We are being contracted to shoot some
stock footage. The producer wants 1920x1080p
so they will have the largest sell through.
I have worked with them with the DVX for years.
I just need to find a look they like and stick
with it. -

March 2, 2006 at 7:26 pmMike, let us know your test results, wich one is the best for the PB. I have a 15″ PB and I had problems with some formats of HD.
