OK. Whatever works for you. I can’t help but think that one step along the way is wrong in your setup and I only say this because I have captured hundreds of hours of analog footage with the exact same setup. I’m glad you found a solution that works.

Make sure the Canopus is set for analog input.

To the Input jacks. I believe they’re on the front.

Connect your analog cables into the input of the Canopus 300. Then connect the Canopus to your computer with Firewire. In your setup, Choose Format:NTSC (or PAL) and Use: DV NTSC or DV NTSC Firewire Basic (or the PAL versions in you’re in PAL land). You should be good to go.

I guess I should have asked if you have firewire first but I assume you do.

This method does work as I have used it a lot for analog captures.

    Cheers,

Hi. Actually I do this pretty often. I render my project to ProRes422 in Compressor and save the file to a Mac compatible HD.

Connect the HD to a PC running Mac Drive and import the files into Vegas 10. No problems, no ridiculous file sizes. Render to the format of choice from there.

Hi Michael. As a long time Vegas user my experience is it does handle mixed formats and frame rates very well. Some users have problems with AVCHD but that has not been my experience.

Twirl down next to the project name in the Compressor History window. If you didn’t name the project, it will be Untitled. Once you twirl down, you’ll see your newly created file(s) and from there, do the spotlight search to see exactly where it is.

I’ve had the same experience as Tony. Works every time.

Hi Nicholas. For now you’re stuck with your current workflow. Vegas simply does not play well with others. Wish it were different.

Have to agree with Jeremy. I had a similarly configured iMac for a very short time on the suggestion of a friend. Long story short, I traded it back in after a month for a 17″ MacBook Pro. Sure I wish I had the extra new horsepower but I’m productive right now and there will always be faster better computers just around the corner.

The portability and connectivity of the MacBook Pro made my life a lot better right away. The screen on the iMac is wonderful however.
