I would use the “Stereo DVD” option.
AGC stands for Automatic Gain Control which reduces the volume if the signal is strong and raises it when it is weaker.
I don’t know about you but I don’t want my carefully prepared audio tracks messed with by some auto circuit.

FYI, my guess is that you’re using Movie Studio. If I’m mistaken and you’re using Vegas Pro, then you should be using the Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro option as shown below.

If you’re concerned about your audio levels not coming out the way you think they should, modify the preset like so:

Encode set to AC3;
Click on Custom tab;
On the first tab, set Dialog Norm at -31 (this sets it at unity gain);
On the last tab marked Preprocessing, set the Line Mode Profile and RF Mode Profile mode to “none”;
DC High Pass Filter On (this operates at <=3Hz and takes DC bias out of the mix);
Bandwidth Low Pass Filter On (this takes aliasing noise at >20kHz out of the encode).
Save this as a preset.

Thanks for the reminder John. I was lucky in that I didn’t have any 32 bit plugins to worry about. Having said that, I have both the 32 and 64 bit versions installed just in case a student comes in with a project that uses a 32 bit plugin.

I prefer to use the mask feature found in Pan/Crop as shown in the images below (my ugly mug!!).
Place the same event of different tracks and apply the mask and FX to the upper one.
I used an extreme amount of CC strictly for demo purposes.

While you can run the 32 bit version of Pro 10, why would you when there’s a 64 bit version. Fortunately it’s free for registered Vegas users.

Why are you doing this in Audacity (which might be affecting the result) when you can easily do this in Vegas.
Copy a section of your video event to a blank space on your timeline, ungroup the audio from the video, delete the video and then use the audio portion to fill in the blank space.
I do this a lot so I know it can be done.

Even having a newer version of QuickTime on your machine is no guarantee that you’ll be able to open them.
For example, my home machine has Pro 8, 9 and 10 on it. MOV files that won’t open in Pro 8 open just fine in Pro 10 so Steve’s suggestion about updating is very valid.
You do realize that you can upgrade to the newest version of only $65 direct from Sony.

David, in all my years of using Vegas, I have never come across that problem.
I tried several different combinations and preference settings to see if I could get it to look like that and couldn’t find any.
Try a master reset of Vegas. Start it up while holding down the SHIFT and CTRL keys. In theory this resets everything back to default.
If that doesn’t work, try reinstalling Vegas once again.
Make sure that nothing else is running at that time, even your anti-virus software, and disconnect from the internet.
