From Sony Customer Service (Answer ID 455):

Our licensing agreement permits you to install the software on as many machines as you own, as long as you are not running the programs at the same time. For instance, you can install the software on your home machine and on your laptop. You are not allowed to install the software on multiple machines if you are going to be using them simultaneously, such as in a home studio setting. If you are going to run the software concurrently on more than one machine, you would need to purchase a separate license for each computer.

Note that when you install the software on a different computer you will need to complete the registration process again. Register the software as you did the first time to unlock the program on each machine. You can register online directly within the software, via the phone, or on our website through our online form.

Finally!!! Looks like all those “suggestions” to Customer Service finally paid off. Now you get to experience a feature we NTSC users have had for what seems like forever 🙂

Hi leslie. Somehow I knew you’d like the T/C fix 🙂
To (hopefully) answer your question, I’ve always installed over top of old versions and nothing has changed. I upgraded last night and have run Vegas & DVDA and nothing changed at all. Extra icons that I had on the Vegas task bar were still there and my prefs were unchanged. I don’t have Excalibur but I can’t imagine it changing either. Drop Edward a quick email to confirm this if you’re unsure.

My (optimistic?) guess is that they will have version 7 at NAB. The newest version of 4 was released in Novemeber 2003 and version 5 was in January 2005. NAB is 2 still months away so I’ll keep hoping.

The usual suggestion is to send your compositing app an uncompressed avi. This helps avoid the degradation that you’re noticing.

Click on Track Motion for the hinge track. Go to the upper left corner of the box that pops up and look for “Source Alpha”. Click here and change this to “3D Source Alpha”. Now start playing until you get the desired effect 🙂

It’s $90 though so the choice is yours.

That is definitely very strange. All I can suggest at this point is to email tech support or do a reinstall.
One possible thought. When I get the “default template” and click the “about” box, I get the following message:
