Define “wobble”.
Do you mean a side to side movement or an up & down movement?
Is it severe, slight or somewhere in between?
The usual suggestions apply. That is, no extreme colours (i.e. stay within the 16-235 value range), no very thin or fancy fonts and watch what kinds of colours are going over what kinds of backgrounds.

Great Titles with the DV Codec is an excellent article that I highly suggest everyone doing any kind of text read.

Here’s a direct link to one of Edward’s newsletters (PDF format) where he discusses this technique.
If you’re not using Vegas 7, one gotcha to watch out for is to make sure you set the Smoothness value to 0 before you do any keyframing of an image.
The default in Vegas 6 and earlier is 1.0 and, if left at this value, it’ll cause a bump at the end of any keyframed move.
Smoothness is in the Pan/Crop window and is found under Keyframe Interpolation (menu on the left-hand side).
BTW, this has to be done for each image that you want to Pan/Crop.

John, there’s no need to pre-render as Vegas will render all FX on the timeline when you do a “render as”.

Use the Default Text and the alpha (i.e. transparency) issues are taken care of for you.

To make the text longer, place your cursor on the right or left side of it and drag it out to the desired length.

Here’s a hint to make your text look a bit cleaner (especially around the edges). Double the size when you create it. That is, change 720 x 480 to 1440 x 960. The boxes for this are in the top left of the titler event FX window.

Try a (key-framed) glow filter on it.

This is the kind of thing I normally do in Photoshop.
You can also try using the ChromaKey tool in Vegas.
Use the color picker tool and select your black background.
If the background isn’t 100% black, you may need to do some minor tweaks to it but these methods have been covered here before.

For your text converter, do a google search on vegas SubText and you’ll find a free one in the first few links that come up.
