I have no idea why you’d want to do it this as opposed to separate audio & video streams but that’s your decision.
After selecting MPEG-2 as the “Save as” type, select the “DVD NTSC” template (or PAL, as the case may be).
Then click the “Custom” box and the “Video” tab.
Choose either VBR or CBR and adjust the bitratevideo settings as necessary for the length of the video.

One, Vegas has a bunch of terrific features, but most of them require a fast computer. It makes a huge difference.
Agreed. My quad core leaves my old P4 3.4 in the dust 🙂
I think Vegas requires at least 2 and is much better with 4.
2 GB of RAM is good but XP (if that’s what you’re running, won’t see 4 GB. AS I recall, 3 is the upper limit.
The memory in your video card is important as well.
Unless you’re running the full version of Magic Bullet and one of their specified video cards, a decent dual-head card is all you need.
More memory on the card is good if you’re a gamer but otherwise it has no effect (with the exception noted above) on Vegas’s performance. -
Vegas is the tool to use but you’re missing an important point here.
An existing wave file (let’s assume it’s a stereo music track) is only a portion of a true 5.1 project.
That still leaves you with 4 other tracks to have information on.
My suggestion is to browse the Dolby Labs web site to learn what’s involved in doing this right the first time. -
Without creating a sound file specifically for surround sound, the best you can get is a pseudo 5.1 by changing your project properties from stereo to 5.1 Surround.

It’s all a matter of personal preference.
When watching anything on TV, I prefer to have quiet things be quiet and loud things be loud (just like real life!!) but my wife grabs the remote and turns it up or down so that the level stays the same 🙁
Personally (as I said earlier), I’d adjust the levels to my satisfaction in Vegas and not worry about it any more. -
Are the sections louder because they’re supposed to be louder or because they weren’t mixed properly?
If it’s the latter, go back to Vegas, correct any audio issues and send a proper audio file to your DVD authoring software. -
Maybe my install is partially corrupted?
Stranger things have been known to happen.
An uninstall/ reinstall won’t take much time at all. -
When replacing themes, keep in mind that there are two places that the files reside.
One is C:\Program Files\Sony\DVD Architect Pro 4.5\themes while the other is C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Sony\DVD Architect Pro\4.5\Themes.
The former has only the file with the .thm extension while the latter has xml files as well as all necessary image files in it. -
Was the audio fed through a mic line or your line input?
Either way, I’m thinking that the distortion is still pretty bad.
If this was a rock band and you were close to the P.A. it was probably VERY loud.
iZotope just came out with a new program called iZotope RX that I’ve heard very good things about. The Declipper tool is the option you want to try.
It’s a $349 program that’s on sale until the end of this month for $199.
It’s currently a standalone app but they promise to have it available as a plug-in next spring.
This update will be free to all registered users.
