Robert, here are two screen shots from ProRes files that I got from a local post house that uses FCP.
The first one has audio while the second one doesn’t.

Johan, to the best of my knowledge, the only uncompressed outputs that Vegas offers are AVI and MOV.

Trust me when I say that you can’t do it in Pro 8.
I had to this a few weeks ago for an assignment for my daughter and I had to use Pro 10 to get Vegas to recognize the iPhone 5 files. -

Rob, I get ProRes files all the time from guys who use FCP and have never had any problems opening them.
The sample file that you linked to is another matter though.
I’m using Pro 10 32 bit and that file refuses to even load onto my Vegas timeline 🙁
I’m using QuickTime player 7.6.8 -
Dave, this is just a guess on my part but it’s a TV news show clip and they have a lot more latitude than you and I do when it comes to things like this.
I don’t follow sports but if ESPN broadcasts the games that could also give them more latitude. -
Dave, it’s not any music but rather the fact that it was a San Diego Chargers game. The NFL takes copyright very seriously and comes down hard on anyone who violates their terms.

Look for a file that has the .bak extension (title.veg.bak)
Copy this to a new folder, rename it by dropping the .bak extension and try opening that.
If it works, save it immediately with a new name.
