Challenge importing ProRes 422 into Sony Vegas Pro 10
Hi there,
I’m working with a film to video transfer house here in Toronto. They’re scanning some 16mm film for me and creating a 2K ProRes422 Quicktime.mov files. They have a short and downloadable 2K sample on their website which i’ve downloaded, but no matter what i try, I cannot get it into Sony Vegas (I’m running Pro 10 – on a 64Bit PC with Windows 7).
I’ve checked out the forums here and have followed a few suggestions. ie. purchased QuickTime pro and removed the timecode from the file, also downloaded and installed the avid codec – but to no avail.
Any Sony Vegas / Film Transfer guys or gals who can help?

Robert,
I didn’t notice a link to the short and downloadable 2K sample you were referring to. That might be helpful to anyone trying to assist you with this problem. Of course, that may not be for public consumption and that I understand.. but if it is, post the link.
Might be time to move up to Vegas 12 now that some of the bugs have been put to rest.

Rob, I get ProRes files all the time from guys who use FCP and have never had any problems opening them.
The sample file that you linked to is another matter though.
I’m using Pro 10 32 bit and that file refuses to even load onto my Vegas timeline 🙁
I’m using QuickTime player 7.6.8 -

Thanks for trying to import the sample file. At least i now know its not just an isolated problem. The transfer house has also offered to render the files in a Cineform format…so we’ll so how that works out.

Robert, when I get into work tomorrow, I’ll take a look at a few ProRes files I have and let you know what the specs are on them.

Robert, here are two screen shots from ProRes files that I got from a local post house that uses FCP.
The first one has audio while the second one doesn’t.

fyi to Mike et al,
Was never able to work out a Pro-Res solution. Instead the transfer house provided me with 2K Cineform Outputs and they were fine.
