    Hey there,

I just got given some videos off an iPhone5. They show up with the video codec AVC1. I tried installing CCCP and then a couple of other codec packs, but none seemed to let vegas read the video stream.

Then I read it’s a pretty crappy format for editing anyway, and that it’s better to transcode to MJPEG, although even after some Googling and hunting on the forums here, it’s not quite clear what tools to use for this specific use case.

I’ve tried using Handbrake to turn the files into an MP4 / M4V but vegas just complains that it can’t read the file.

So does anyone have any tips for getting an iPhone5 .mov into vegas in an edit friendly format with minimal loss of quality?

I can’t help you with the immediate question, but I do have a tip for you.

DO NOT EVER INSTALL A CODEC PACK

Codec packs are usually written for gamers, for fast playback rendering. They are lousy for file encoding and when you install a codec pack you usually replace the excellent codecs installed with Vegas with really inferior ones.

Trust me when I say that you can’t do it in Pro 8.
I had to this a few weeks ago for an assignment for my daughter and I had to use Pro 10 to get Vegas to recognize the iPhone 5 files.

    Doesn’t Pro 8 predate iPhone?
