    Hi all,

I use SVP at home and I’m in the process of testing my Canon 7D for a coming short film production.

    I shoot mainly in 25p1080.

I wonder a few things about render formats..

Which is the LARGEST and Highest Quality output possible?

I have tried the XDCAM 35 Mbit/s Quicktime render and it looks OK. But uploading it to Vimeo and re-downloading to another computer which doesn’t support the codec makes the files unplayable. It also seems to make the playback struggle just a bit when streaming it in Full HD from Vimeo.

Please have a look at the results here:

https://vimeo.com/user3373664/videos (all videos called “7D Cinestyle test..” is exported in XDCAM.)

Any imput would be of great value!

    Kind Regards,

    Johan

Uncompressed video is as large as it gets.

What you render to has no bearing on what Vimeo does. In other words, it doesn’t matter what you feed Vimeo, it’s going to convert it to exactly the same thing every time so I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish. XDCAM 35 Mbit is extremely high quality to be giving Vimeo since it is going to get compressed to MP4 anyway by Vimeo.

    Hi John,

Thanks for the response. I have been looking for an uncompressed output but cannot find it!

I agree that XDCAM seems like overkill as the original is .h264 native! I was just wondering wether the upload format had any impact on Vimeo. I get the impression that some 1080p videos plays smoother than others on Vimeo.

    Kind Regards,

    Johan

Vimeo has compression guidelines as well as tutorials for Vegas Pro 9, 10 and 11 on their site at https://vimeo.com/help/compression

    Thanks Mike,

The Vimeo issue was a side track though, the main issue I have is the Uncompressed Output.

    Kind Regards,

    Johan

Johan, to the best of my knowledge, the only uncompressed outputs that Vegas offers are AVI and MOV.

[Johan Windh] “the main issue I have is the Uncompressed Output.”

You have to make your own template. If you go to Video for Windows (*.avi) you can edit the template and for the Video Format select Uncompressed.
