November 3, 2008 at 1:31 am in reply to: Thick black bar at bottom of frame during captureI’m using component from the deck to the AJA. I’m using a Sigma BSG-26a black burst hooked up to both the deck and aja. I’m not sure if i have the settings correct though because like i said when i open final cut the ref light on the front of the AJA is on, but when i open the log and capture widow it turns off, and i get the black line at the bottom of the frame.

Just wanted to thank all who replied to my post. I’ve taken some time to digest the threads and after re-reading them over a few times i feel a definite relief from the anxiety of situation was causing. For some reason Mark’s advice about being patient has struck a note. Not sure if it’s because I’m confident the VP will be out the door sooner than i think, or because i realized i was in such a rush to get paid a salary i didn’t necessarily deserve. Either way, in the end i think my best move is to move on. The funny part about taking all your advice and making the decision to move on with my career is that i’ve inadvertently become so focused on getting work stuff done, so i can spend more time on side projects on home, that I’ve found myself accumulating more time at work exploring new creative ideas… All the while i’m brushing up my reel. Go figure. So for the time being I’ll let patience let all the pieces fall into place.

I did read the DO I HAVE A BEEF thread below, and picked up some useful info. But i’m still looking to pick your brains.

There’s no stopping the pop-up promo. It’s now evolved horribly. I just recently witnessed bad comedian Bill Engvall pop-up in the middle of a Family Guy Episode on TBS and actually PAUSE the episode to plug his show. I almost put my foot through the TV.

No it’s OS formatted, i’ve been able to capture large amounts of video in one swoop.

I’m not used to dealing with a data rate of more than the standard NTSC/DV (3.6mb/s), so i saved it to a 4tb Raid 0 Sata. I’m working a encode in Compressor right now, we’ll see if it works. Prob gonna take a while

December 20, 2007 at 2:53 am in reply to: Questions about terminology used in Paul Wheeler’s “HD Cinematography”Absolutely, that link spelled it out perfectly. It’s always more fun to learn when you know what the hell the author is talking is about.

No, it was all video cut in FCP 6 that was to accompany another piece already formatted for the video board. I contacted the prod company that delivered the formatted piece and they put me through how they accomplished the resize in AE.

After an ulcer forming pre-game i was able to output the video with the proper apsect ratio that fit the video board. Your right, it was a matter of making an anamorphic letterbox in 4×3 ratio that was able to be stretched to fit the board, however i achieved this in AE. I WILL on the other hand be testing your method in FCP. It sounds much easier than having to bounce back and forth from program to program. I’ll let you know if this works.

Just wanted to clear my wording. The install setup is asking for an UPGRADE to a later version of FCP 5.0.4, not an UPDATE, which is what i stated earlier. Still at a freeze with no clue what to do.
