I did the OS update to 10.4.10, as well as QT to 7.1.6. It sounds like if i don’t have the install discs for FCS1, which i don’t, i’m screwed (trusty colleague took a walk with them and never came back). Can i completely remove FCS1 from the boot and install a fresh FCS2, or is the FCS1 gonna haunt me?

No, it’s not even getting that far into the install. I get to the point where i decide which programs in the studio package i want to install. However, most are greyed out because it says i need to update the previous studio software. All i need for now is FCP 6.0. I’m running 5.0.4, and can’t find an update that’s not 5.1 and $.

Thanks for the help, especially you Barry. I’m on my third run of The HVX Bootcamp DVD. I can slowly feel myself becoming an HVX expert.

I’ve been using it for about two weeks, and it’s definitely not a point, shoot and edit workflow from my standpoint. Because i’m going back and forth from tape to P2(Firestore) I’ve forgotten to set a few critical functions on the camera and firestore that allow for proper recording to the Firestore resulting in lost footage. However with some understanding and practice these mistakes will surely disappear.

Firestore 100gb external hard drive. Hook it up via firewire and shoot right onto it. Costs about the same as a 10gig P2 card. Just ordered one, but on massive backorder due to such high demand.

I can get a streaming WMV out of Cleaner doing the two pass because of the Flip4mac ProHD plug-in, my argument is why it takes so much longer for the two pass to finish compared to QT Pro and Squeeze.

After many test exports and setting tweeks in Cleaner 6.0 i was able to come up with a pretty nice file. I was able to stream and download in iTunes, however the crusher came when i tried to drag the video file onto my iPod and received an error message. So, i’m back to squar one which was exporting a QT reference out of FCP with a custom frame size (which takes considerably longer than exporting with current settings), then re-exporting the reference file out of QTpro with the iPod settings. It’s a pain, but it works. If you have any other workflow suggestions that don’t involve purchasing more software than i’ve already done…..holla back.

When I selected iPod in the Output setting, I found an H.264 option in the Codec pull-down menu in Cleaner 6.0. It seems to work, however the default audio codec (QDesignMusic 2) doesn’t seem to work with any video codec i select. Also, my only issue with exporting iPod out of QT Pro is the inability to change settings, i.e. frame size.

It’ll be in the left timecode box in the Canvas
