Thanks for the reply Angelo. One of the reason I was seeking more information on how to approach the “Behind the Scenes” project, from a business standpoint, was due to the fact that the finalized budget did not include any room to film or edit any BTS goings-on.
I simply pitched a super rough idea, and was surprised when they (the producers, director) OK’d it so much as it didn’t interfere with the role they originally hired to me fill.
Adding the role of BTS documentarian to my already negotiated day-rate would certainly run me thin.
It would essentially be a budget-less side project I was hoping to turn into “something” down the road (barring I actually had something of interest.)
Do you think it would be worth it to forge ahead with the doc and wait to see if I did indeed have anything of value before ruffling any feathers? -

December 28, 2010 at 2:54 am in reply to: Need to repair a backed-up P2 clip on my external after losing power.Unfortunately I’m not familiar with P2CMS or this particular workflow. My first go at exporting was unsuccessful. In the Ingest window I loaded the contents of the P2 back-up from my external. Found the clip that needed in camera repair. Selected Export and got a message saying:
“The selected clip is off the subject of export… Cannot do the clip with incompleteness.”
I tried ingesting a working clip to my database and exporting from there, but was told:
Writing to target is protected > No Privilege or read only
I have the HVX in 1394 Device Mode and the Protect tab on the P2 card if off.
Because I’m unfamiliar with the workflow, I’m sure I’m missing something. Can you hook me up with a quick step by step?
I’m on a MBP 2.8Ghz Intel running Leopard 10.5.8 with P2CMS version 1.4.8

Great words of wisdom Franklin. I have a good idea what would make me happy to continue working as a freelancer, however, the one thing i feel i need to prepared for is what he might throw back at me. Are there any “Gotchas” that a seasoned negotiator might throw at newbie that i should keep an eye out for?

February 27, 2009 at 9:28 pm in reply to: Having sync Issue with ioHD, Cabling/Setup might not be correctJust wanted to leave an update on the issue. Turned out to be the video tracking dial on the deck. I just so happen to be noodling around with the dial when suddenly the think black bar disappeared. Problem solved. It always turns out to be the simplest things.

I have an idea what i’m worth, but I have yet to find a person in a similar situation that i can base my salary off of. Hence the reason why I’m posting on the COW. I’ve been basing my numbers on what freelancers get paid, but since my work is steady i know my situation comes at a discount. So far, i’ve calcualted that there paying me at nearly a 50% discount, which seems a tad bit unfair to me. No?

Getting the OS’s to match is definitely top priority. However, now that my client has been convinced that an upgrade is crucial i’d like to deliver a solution. As it appears that matching the OS’s will fix my constant updating firmware issue, i’m still interested in what the solution/solutions would be to get around having to constantly power cycle the machines.

Well Bob after threatening him with the collapse of his business i was tasked with figuring out what it would take to fix the issue. Obviously my first step is to upgrade the OS of the older machine to match the lastest one. But what else would help eliminate the constant power cycling and rehooking between both machines? Switcher?

I power down the Mac, the IO, and the deck before removing the Firewire cable. I then make sure the second Mac is powered down before plugging in the Firewire to the second Mac. Next i power up the deck, then the IO, then the Mac. Once the OS on the second Mac has fully loaded is when the AJA Updater opens. The strange thing is that sometimes the updater won’t open after the power cycle and the IO will work fine. Then i’ll powerdown everything rehook firewires and wallah the updater opens and the IO won’t work unless it’s updated. All this power cycling has become a major pain. Do you think theres a better software/hardware work around that’ll complement my current setup besides getting another dedicated IO and Deck for the second Mac?
