P2 firestore
Posted by Karen Skloss on January 9, 2007 at 3:15 pmHas anyone tried using the new FS-100 FireStore Portable Recorder?
Here’s the link to it:
I’m wondering if it could get me out of the card shuffle game and make this camera workflow possible for documentary shooting in the DVCPRO HD mode.
Too good to be true?

as with everything there are pros and cons to it. It is coming alone very nicely and becoming more stable.

January 9, 2007 at 6:27 pmI’ve been using it for about two weeks, and it’s definitely not a point, shoot and edit workflow from my standpoint. Because i’m going back and forth from tape to P2(Firestore) I’ve forgotten to set a few critical functions on the camera and firestore that allow for proper recording to the Firestore resulting in lost footage. However with some understanding and practice these mistakes will surely disappear.

January 9, 2007 at 8:48 pmSomeone told me that you could get a P2 card with firewire out. Then you should be able to use standard firewire disks to record your MXF files. Do not know the manufactor of the card – someone else ?

January 9, 2007 at 11:00 pmthere is no P2 card with firewire out, however the camera itself has a firewire out through which you can capture live into AVID, FCP etc. You may be thinking of the mythical cineporter which is similar to the firestore but which interfaced with the P2 slot. No idea where the cineporter is, it has never made it to the market. In the meantime the firestore has taken off and has been getting better and better.
My personal preference is for more P2 cards. The more data on a single device, without back-up, the less comfortable I become. The buzz at present is that the 8gb cards are about to have their price slashed. It can’t come soon enough for me.

You might be referrring to the Cineporter, but that isn’t firewire out. It is a two card slot solution into the p2 card slots and records to an hard drive configured to receive native streams.

January 21, 2007 at 11:10 pmI have an HVX-200 and shot a project on my firestore
FS-100 setup to Standard Def DV-50. The camera was
set to 480/ 60i. I copied the files from the
firestore to the Avid media drives in the MXF file
folder. All the files show up in the media tool, the
audio is there, but all video appears “Offline”. I’ve
had success in the past with the camera set to 720P
doing DVCPRO-HD on the firestore and it worked great.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
