  • Thick black bar at bottom of frame during capture

While capturing Beta SP footage, i’m noticing a thicker than normal black bar at the bottom of the frame. The source footage is native 4×3, so the full frame should be clean. I’m aware that the edges will contain some thin black bars and noise, but this case seems a little much. I’m capturing the footage from a Sony PVW-2800 Beta SP, and doing the A/D thru an AJA-ioHD into a dual 3ghz quad-core intel MAC PRO. I’ve been hearing that it might be a sync issue and the interesting thing i’ve noticed is that when i open the log and capture window in FCP, the blue REF light turns off. So i’m thinking that it just might be a sync issue but can’t figure out how to fix it. Any ideas???

Yes it’s a sync issue. Are you using component cables from the deck or composite? Do yo have a black burst generator? If not can you in the AJA panel lock to incoming video or if you have a an extra composite out of the deck try running it to the genlock of the ioHD.

I’m using component from the deck to the AJA. I’m using a Sigma BSG-26a black burst hooked up to both the deck and aja. I’m not sure if i have the settings correct though because like i said when i open final cut the ref light on the front of the AJA is on, but when i open the log and capture widow it turns off, and i get the black line at the bottom of the frame.
