You are unlikely to be fired for being honest (unless your boss is a real #%^&%*^*.
Do you submit timesheets or anything?I would go to the producer or whoever signs your check, and setup a time to talk about your workflow (make it sound like management related stuff).
Then give evidence that the last project was due in a week’s time, and it took you exactly 70 hours to complete. Say you don’t mind working hard on all your projects, but there is a reasonable limit within a 40-60 hour work week at which point you become inefficient.
That being said, if you make six figures, then I would tough it out or find another such job. -
I have noticed that when the entertainment shows do this DVE trick, they generally are not editing out re-takes, but are in fact editing the content of the interview. For example if Brad Pitt says “I have not always had a thing for other younger obese women.” the DVE will be used to make it into “I have -DVE zoom in- always had a thing for -DVE zoom out- obese women.”
Probably true actually, but definitely don’t do that ever.Another shot I see sometimes is a static shot at floor level pointed at the field monitor, which is displaying the primary camera.
On the “Interpreter” DVD, the interview with Sidney Pollack has two cams – one is a regular interview style, head to waist level so you can see the hand monements. The other cam is locked down, but from 90 degrees to the right, showing the face only facing screen left, with just black in the background. Almost looked like two interviews edited together, but cuts mid-sentence give it away.

I agree with Tim, Adobe is going to do what it can, but certainly not please everyone. It took Photoshop 5 versions to get the text tool easy to work with.
Perfection takes a while.My office has a Media 100i on a G3 on one desk, and Premiere Pro directly opposite, I can just about reach them both with my arms extended.
I have assigned as many keyboard commands to Premiere Pro to emulate Media 100 as possible.
Obviously PPro adds numerous great features which M100 does not have.
The few it does not have which M100 does have are seemingly obvious features for a “PRO” editor, but what are ya gonna do?Interesting that Adobe tacked the word Pro on to their existing product, probably to verbally compete with FCP, yet not including some of the Pro features as FCP.
Not having a G5 or FCP or AE for that matter I cannot say which is better, but from what I read FCP does everything. Does it do everything well? Probably not.
Well that’s my two and a half cents. I can do things in PPro that I could not do on my M100 or certainly not on my Ampex ACE 25. However the ability to manually control the ADO with a joystick was great!

if the program update is imminent, I suppose now is not the time to be listing our wished for features, but something I would like to see is:
Drag any clip from a sequence to a bin, so you can use that easily in other places without copying, pasting and might I add finding in your sequence. Nested sequences certainly solves this problem, but it is an extra step.
that’s about it for me.

Good to hear I am not complete crazy (a little crazy,I admit).
As usual if you search for such conflicts on Adobe or Microsoft’s site, they inevitably say they cannot support the use of other manufacturers’ products etc.
I will try crap cleaner. Or setup QT 7 on a machine without any other video apps for the occasioanl use of QT 7 Pro.
Too bad as the QT 7 HD clips on QT.com look sweeet.Mike

Copy others.
It works for me. Find some show opens you like, or whatever it is you have to create, and sketch out a few design features you like, then experiment to come up with something you like. Do this enough times and you will develop a palette of techniques.
I’m no motion graphics expert, but I find this process has improved my satisfaction with my own work, and the clients don’t seem to mind either.Mike

if it is to be part of a performance, you will want to avoid pause-play functions, because if you are using a dvd player your on-screen display will probably show the PLAY indicator on the screen you are using for display – I would go with the menu method

I never encode higher than 6 mb. Yes, definitely don’t let Encore auto encode. I always encode out of Premiere, that way you know how much space on a DVD you will take up.

a few years ago when the palm and pocket pc units touted video playback, we had the same conversation. for less $$ you can buy a portable dvd player.
but i bet they will sell lots of them.
will go to apple store in san fran next week and check out all their latest toys.
