And people are already asking “How do I encode something and put it on the ipod?”

    Sheesh…HOURS after it is announced.

Heck, I ask “Where is the dual core dual Power Mac?”

Interesting though the new iMAC does have a PCI Express bus for that Radeon X600 card, hopefully the dual cores are just arond the corner with PCI Express just like the iMAC.

I second that hope. PCI-e is long overdue and would be a huge addition for PowerMacs. I really hope they come soon as my Mini just isn’t cutting it.
As a random vent of anger, who wants to watch movies on an ipod? If you want portability, buy a portable DVD player. Call me crazy, but I’d rather watch a movie on a decent TV or maybe even go the novel route of going to a theater. Sorry. Random vent of anger over

a few years ago when the palm and pocket pc units touted video playback, we had the same conversation. for less $$ you can buy a portable dvd player.
but i bet they will sell lots of them.
will go to apple store in san fran next week and check out all their latest toys.

Indeed, but they claim they’re going to offer last night’s ABC television shows as “Podcasts” for $1.99. And music videos direct from iTunes for .99 cents. That sort of content might be of interest to the masses. I mean, I’d probably pay $1.99 to download a few of the better HBO series the morning after they broadcast, since I don’t have HBO*. Perhaps that’s what the future holds.

(*For now, though, I wait for these shows to come out on DVD. So a portable DVD player is the realistic answer if I’m dying to watch ‘Deadwood’ on the commuter train.)

Speculation a few months ago was that dual core will wait until the Intel machines start shipping. As Apple has already announced those machines will be shipping in 2006, I would expect to at least see a working machine at NAB 2006 in April.

Encode at H.264 as listed in the footnotes in the iPod Video spec sheet:

Video capacity is based on 4 minutes per H.264 750-Kbps video combined with 128-Kbps audio.

    Yeah…mere hours (2 I think) after I posted that I found this:

H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps,
    320 x 240,
    30 frames per sec.,
Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps,
    480 x 480,
    30 frames per sec.,
Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

But test it. WHich requires getting the new iPod. “Darn it Honey, I need to get a NEW iPod now. Man!”
