glad I am not the only one.
Oddly, once I got a positive response on the Project size calculation, I would save and close the project, and move to the next set of sequences.However upon opening the seemingly good project, it went back to unknown error again.
So far I have 6 project versions, but I need to check each new project to make sure things are ok.With the low cost of SATA drives, I may just leave the larger projects alone!

We have a 60 minute long AVI file which runs from 00:00:00:00 to 01:00:00:00 – drag that to the top track and position it wherever you want, then export your MPEG-2 or whatever file.
I do not remember where I got it, but I think searching Google was involved.It is obviously only useful if you start your sequences at 00:00:00:00. Although your client does not care what the timecode is as long as you have something they can reference, so even if your sequence starts at 6:00:00:00, you can plant the timecode clip at the start of what you want the client to review and you have synch with each other.
If you want the tape timecode use the Premiere filter.
If not going to DVD, use the clip notes feature, it is very cool.

sounds like something to do with Toshiba’s capturing – was this via firewire or USB?
But you say it plays fine in Windows Media Player, just not in Premiere. Are you sure it is DV-AVI?
If you click properties in Premiere what does it tell you? If it is not a proper DV-AVI file you may get playback anomolies.
What is Toshiba’s capturing program? Sounds like one of those cheapo things that comes with camcorders, which often capture to something other than DV. -
What were you capturing? DV tape or some other format captured through a analog to digital box?
I know when I capture DVCPRO via a Canopus ADVC-110 I get a black bar along the left and bottom. No I do not have a firewire compatible DVCPRO deck.
As Mike said, a slight zoom may fix your problem without noticable picture degradation. You could even nest your sequence and zoom the whole thing in one go – it needs to render anyway.

I found it is very easy to accidentally have a keyframe where you do not want it. And remember if you shorten a clip, it retains the keyframes beyond the in or out points, in which case deleting the keyframes is the answer as Steven suggested.
Do not rely upon clicking a keyframe and adjusting its properties – always use the next/prev keyframe button. This gets unweildy if you have placed seemingly synchronous keyframes on multiple effects on the same clip – if keyframes are offset by even 1 frame, you can add a new keyframe without realizing it – especially if you are not zoomed in on the keyframes in the effects controls. -
could it have been that my computer has the 1.5.1 update and the other computer does not? I did not think about that until this morning.

That explains why whenever I take a USB drive home to work on something, the audio gets re-conformed, and and then again back at the office.

just cut your picture how it feels natural – granted plenty of people have made a practice of using intentionally jarring edits, jump cuts, etc, where appropriate, with great effect.
I was taught to edit on the action, and you can cut out action to speed things up as need be, as long as it matches. An advantage of shooting with 2 cameras from 2 angles or a wide and a tight is you can cut between the two and compress time more easily.

I am learning new things I can do in Premiere every day. People often ask if I use AE, and in 10 years I have not yet found a use for it in the type of work I do. I have AE and Flash on my list of things to learn the rudimentary function of, but my editing load keeps me plenty busy.
In our small shop, each editor is usually the director, shooter, editor, DVD authorer and graphic artist if need be. Knowing a little about a lot of software is not so useful, but knowing a lot about what you use every day and enough about what you might use once in a while to get out of a jam is worthwhile.
For example:
Last year I noticed a shot of a guy wearing a “Jesus is my final anwer” t-shirt. While Jesus may in fact be his final answer, I thought it was distracting in an educational video for first responders. Knowing a tiny bit about Commotion, I was able to paint it out. Ask me how to do anything else in the program, forget it. -
Oh even when I specify DV-AVI on a DVD disk, I get any and all flavors.
One reason is that many of the folks who are doing their own editing have only a rudimentary concept of what they are doing – editing video fine, but talk about format of video? Forget it.
Anyway the intent of this thread was just to be ready for anything, because regardless of what you ask for, you will get anything.
The original person on this particular project asked for DV tape or AVI files on a DVD – thank goodness I didn’t get an Cinepak files!!
