It is September 1st after all

I think I might need to drill a hole through the aluminum casing right in the middle of the apple logo to get the HDMI cables out to my monitor
-
I guess with the limited amount of space available behind the mac pro the hdmi out requires a slot

Hi There
exciting to feel the launch pad is ready for take off.
question, from the config guide(page 12):
“Storage Options – Internal
5 x 7200rpm SATA hard disks, plus
1 x OWC Multi-Mount 3.5” to 5.25” bracket set”how do you connect the 5th drive? I mean is it an esata connection? if so you could software raid all 5 drives as raid 0? or is it optical bay connection, i’m not sure what transfer rate/speed that is.
I know the 2008 MacPros came with 2 spare esata ports that would allow you to have an extra 2 internal drives for a total of 6 internal esata drives that could be software raided as 0 and achieve reads of 550mbs
you would need a caddy pro2 in the optical bay to properly mount the optical drive and the 2 drives
but I believe these 2 extra ports were removed in the 2009 MacPros and most likely in the 2010
could someone please point me to where I can find more info into the 5th drive in the optical bay installation and it’s connectivity from drive to computer
I saw the OWC website, and also show a bracket to install up to two 3.5″ hard drives in the optical bay, but how do you connect those drives without the need of another card
thanks in advance

But also. how about a plug in for noise reduction, it would be great to have the ability to do nice and clean noise reduction

I just got my GT 120 today too just in case
but I’m starting to get a weird feeling about this, i’m not spending any more money until the release date and specifications are finally truly RESOLVED, it’s already week 2 in August, apart from the $995 how much will I really need to make this thing work properly and reliably.
there are thousands of 2008 3.1 macPros that might not be compatible, and now Nvidia is getting dropped by Apple
I can’t help to think and feel that there is a problem here, and there are alot of people investing money in anticipation and preparing in advance for this release, and the weeks needed afterwards to actually learn the program before it can be put to use, now the problem has become the necessary hardware that will be required
it’s not Resolve for mac, but Resolve for a specific type of mac, and that is now changing
I got confirmation today from apple dealer about conflicts of interest between apple and Nvidia, the future looks dim here.
Is october a more reasonable release date??????
that way we can continue to book future jobs on Apple Color

Well it looks like resolve will need to re-evaluate the ways new macpros will come configured.
For those with older 2008 or people wanting the newer 12 core machines looks like the only option is a 2009 nahelem
It looks like a hackintosh might be the way to go

And in August possibly September ?

Will I be able to run resolve on a 8 core 3.0 ghz 2008 mac pro?
Do I really need a new computer to run resolve? Do you foresee a problem with an earlier 2008 8 core machine?
There are a lot of us gearing up for this release, we need to know what type of computer is the minimum requirement
I would understand if a MacBook laptop wouldn’t be sufficient but an early model 8 core tower?
Thanks in advance -
Hi Sascha, I agree with you
It would be good to find out from DaVinci or Black Magic if Resolve can support external multi GPU devices like the ones mentioned to accelerate processing .
if possible or not, could someone respond please
thanks in advance.
