    hello everyone

and thanks Eric Fiegehen for your helpful information on “GPU-Xpander Pro 2”.

a few questions for me to learn more about how this could work with my setup.

for mac, what are the current programs that can take advantage of this system, is adobe CS5 one of them, if so how, would Final cut studio benefit?

also would like to know, if a program uses the GPU to run tasks, how would that program see the “GPU-Xpander Pro 2” with 2 cards inside, I guess my question is how do both cards distribute tasks between them, is there a controller inside “GPU-Xpander Pro 2” that allocates and distributes tasks to both cards, how would a program like Resolve that uses one GTX 285 work with 2 cards, or would it see “GPU-Xpander Pro 2” as just one single powerfull card, similar to how a disk array of drives can be set as RAID 0, where multiple drives can be stripped to form and be seen by the computer as one fast drive.

    thanks in advance

so the question in everyone’s would be: can this device work with Resolve, it two GTX 285 cards were installed in the Octane and connected to a macpro.

if it works with Adobe CS5, may be it can benefit the way Resolve operates too

another question would be : would Resolve support this.

I think this has got alot of people intrigued and interested.

    Thanks

“” Thanks for chiming in Eric. Looking forward to what you might come up with. I could kill two birds with one stone here,..Davinci and Octane”””

I absolutely agree, if Davinci Resolve could work with this, it would make it a powerful system, I would get one in a heart beat. two GTX 285 cards working in unison driving Resolve…….we are talking realtime playback and numerous FX’s, and faster rendering, a much faster way of working.

I’ve been thinking of upgrading my early 2008 3.0ghz macpro for the new 12 cores coming in July or so, but I would rather go the Octane route if it is an obtainable solution, no need for new computer as the site mentions.

    fingers crossed

does this mean that Resolve for mac can run more powerfully with this device?

    Thanks JPO for your response

what mac tower set up do you have, I’m running Snow Leopard and FCS3, logic and CS4 and luckily no major problems.

if any black magic guys could contribute, would my mac set up be sufficient?

    here’s my current setup:

    – Early 2008 8 core 3.0 ghz
    – 18 gigs of ram
    – already installed GTX 285
still have GT 8800 that will re- install when I get Resolve (BTW – how can I power both cards when GTX takes both power connectors)

    – upto date Snow Leopard
    – already bought Extreme HD card

At NAB saw the demo running on a Nahelem 2.93 ghz (current top of the line model)

but how would the program perform on an older machine intel machine

    thanks in advance

  • Thanks Walter, fantastic review.

I hope Euphonix gets going quickly with the release and demo of MC COLOR, the wave looks fantastic.

this is a critical time for people making decisions about new panels, they are going to miss out if they take much longer
