Thanks Noah, yeah, I have used 3d Studio Max and Lightwave 3d before, unfortunately I can’t get budget to buy new applications, and I guess I’m using 3d more as a ‘bonus’ to my corporate work rather than a neccesity. But you know, I’m always looking for new ways to dazzle the suits 😛 I really should invest some more time in 3d at home, it’s one of those things that takes a lot of dedication!

Hey that looks cool 🙂 Have you used it much? 3D is one of those things that seems to be unavoidable these days! It seems like a good price…

From what I’ve experienced, you have to make each letter/section that you want a different colour/behaviour etc on, a different text layer. You can do individual behaviours/colours etc within one layer in LiveType though.

  • This is probably completely left-field, but another way of doing it *ONLY* if it is a short piece, would be to export a filmstrip from AE, touch up the frames one at a time in photoshop (make a cloned ‘blob’ on a new layer from the existing pixels from the shirt that will cover the logo and ‘paste’ it over each frame.) That way when you get to the arm moving part, you can ‘erase’ or ‘mask’ the part of the brown layer that you need to reveal the arm. Then you can bring the filmstrip in AE again and voila!

I haven’t done this myself, but it should work, and avoids animating masks which is probably more time-consuming and less accurate (if you rush it!)

  • Cool

Yeah, that works. I hadn’t discovered the image mask tool yet, really helpful! Slowly but surely….

    Thanks specialcase!

Just in case you’re interested, here’s the guys who designed the titles:

  • Heya,

Sorry to hijack the post, but I’m looking for a similar solution. The above tutorial is great, but what if you want to draw something more complex? After Effects write on filter is great as you can import paths that you would like to follow, so you can have text writing on for example. I can’t seem to find anything in the Motion manual for importing paths, nor a way to “paint” a mask in the same way AE’s write-on works.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

    uh-oh…

Not that I know of, but this is slightly quicker:

Leave your first clip with the filters on, select everything else in your timeline (that you want to remove the offending filter from) and ctrl+click and remove attributes-filters.

Open the first clip and remove the offending filter, then ctrl+click and copy attributes-filters

Now select the rest of your clips and Ctrl+click, PASTE ATTRIBUTES-filters.

This way you won’t duplicate the existing filters, and you can bulk add them to the clips without the one you don’t want/

To bad about the re-rendering time.

*this only works if all your clips have the exact same set of filters applied to them….

    Good Luck!

Please correct me creative cow-ers if there is a simpler way, I haven’t made this mistake myself!
