Superman titles
Posted by Winston Cely on July 3, 2006 at 5:11 pmSo, I just saw the new Superman Returns movie, and I’m wondering when someone is going to do a tutorial on how to emulate the opening credits using Motion. I’d do it, but really, I’m just not that smart. 🙁
BTW, IMHO, Superman Returns rocks! Worth the ticket price.

July 3, 2006 at 6:56 pmAgree on the movie. I think you could do it with Trapcode 3d Stroke using AFX. I’m going to play with the demo.

As it’s a 3d effect it’s a little out of Motion’s capabilities if you wanted it to look identical that is.

July 3, 2006 at 7:52 pmCool. Too bad I don’t have AFX. Let us know if it works though! 😀
I did kinda mess around with the extrude function in Motion, with the font with line and no fill, and it looks kinda close, but there’s no way to adjust the transparency of the extrude filter. That would help a lot…..
I was thinking maybe there’s some way to do it with the replicate function, but I’m not totally sure how to go about using it for that….

July 3, 2006 at 10:28 pmThis is about as good as I could get in Motion using the Extrude and Light Rays filters. It looks ok as a still but in motion the 3d effect is not that convincing.

July 3, 2006 at 11:37 pmThat looks great!
Yeah, I had some difficulties trying to get the 3d effect to not jump around and go all crazy-like. I forgot about the light rays! Good idea. I think the trick will be to animate it….. i might fuss around some more and see if I get anything worth a darn.
Nice work!

July 4, 2006 at 2:22 amHeya,
There seems to be a suspicious level of interest in the Superman credits 😉 There’s another method over on the Apple discussion boards here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=543007&start=0&tstart=0
Good luck with your project!

July 4, 2006 at 2:35 amNot really suspect- I thought it was really cool how they recreated the look of the original ’70’s film credits. Same as the Star Wars prequels credits though Superman Returns is a far better movie than any of the prequels IMHO.

July 5, 2006 at 8:00 pmI thought there might be a way to do it with a replicator. I’m for sure going to try that this weekend.
I agree, he prequels were pretty rancid.

December 4, 2008 at 7:16 amI’ll create your credits for you if you need help. It wold take too long to make a tutorial, plus YouTube only gives you 10 minutes and it will take much longer. I’m making my opening credits to my movie fly in and out just like the new Superman Returns movie. I create them on Adobe After Effects. Just email me with what you want and how you want it and I’ll see what I cando for you. I make no promises, but will promise that i’ll give it my best shot and will email them back to you.
My email is scottactor@yahoo.com
