Try FCP 6 software down conversion. It should work with 720p25 to SD.
But I hope you don’t want to use this for mastering, just for preview!
Better quality is achieved by the Kona 3 or Kona LH, realtime hardware 720p50 to SD down-conversion. The 720p50 mode is used for 720p25 as 720p25 does not exist as a SDI signal.

Go to FCP System Settings and set the pulldown pattern to one of the 24@25 modes in the Playback Control tab. Use a simple PAL based output setting from the video card.

The AJA driver deletes all BMD drivers, so you have to install first the BMD stuff, then AJA

In FCP 5.1.x this works only with an AJA card using the “AJA Kona 720p25 8 Bit DVCProHD (1280 x 720)” output setting.
In FCP 6 you can use the normal 720p50 setting with BMD.

What frame rate did you use?
If it’s 25 fps then only a AJA card would help in FCP 5.1.x.
With FCP 6 you can use the normal 720p50 output setting with BMD.If you shot 50p then you need to use a XML hack to get this working in FCP. Google for “720p50 xml” to find out more about it.

You have to set the video output to 1080i in FCP. The downconversion is set in the Kona LH control utility.
Btw, your current setup would work in FCP 6.
