A puff of dust (there are emitters set up to do this that you can freely download from Wondertouch for ParticleIllusion) will help sell the effect that the suite has landed. Sound effects really help too.
Add a touch of rotation when they bounce. And when they bounce make them move a bit sideways.

In fact you could go drop a couch now and film it, so you can see how it moves in real life! Then you wouldn’t even need to recreate it in AE.

  • In photoshop create a gradient layer. Duplicate it.
Run the halftone effect on one layer, try different settings ’till you get a good ‘un. Then use colour select (or similar) to remove one of the colours, white or black. (I’m assuming this is b&w?) You should have dots on a layer by themselves.
Then you could group the gradient layer onto it and you’ll have dots with a gradient!

Or you could do this whole thing in AE, which will make you much cooler. http://www.petewarden.com provides you with some lovely (FREE!!!) AE plugins, one of which is halftone. Do something similar to the instructions I just gave you for photoshop in AE and you will have great success.

He’s right, convert your audio to sommit other than mp3.

Maybe they’ll make AE7 so that it’ll work with mp3’s, who knows? It might happen!

Just how realistically can a couch drop out of the sky? 😉

You’re going to need to do a good shadow in addition to falling. A good shadow really sells the effect.

How about a drop shadow? *rim shot* (No, seriously, don’t do a drop shadow.)

You could probably do this quite easily with ParticleIllusion and deflectors. I’m sure Particular has similar capabilites and in 3d!

You could also probably do this with Foam that comes with AE, using a gradient map to control the flow?

Don’t worry mate, all of us have done at least one big goof with this stuff. One just loses control in the fog of the moment.

You might consider using Vegas. Its intent is to put swirly lines around masks.

You could make your wall in Invigerator.
