Here is an example of a very beautiful 4d fractal created with Trapcode’s particular 4d Fractal
Another option would be to create many layers using Wondertouch’s ParticleIllusion
One of those images could be recreated using many instances of Trapcode’s 3d stroke.
Trapcode’s Particular has a preset (called organic lines, I think) that would start you on the road to recreating some of these looks.
You’ll probably have to end up using a combination of many different effects to achieve this.

He means Ball Action, not Sphere, and it works better on thinner fonts.

There is a post about clouds forming letters that might help but don’t forget that it might not be a one-plugin solution. You could create your steam with one plugin, your letters with another, and morph them into one another with a third.
