I would like to take several words from a huge wall of 200 different words (I know thats a ton) to explain what a company is all about. My idea is very similar to the last 18 SECONDS of this piece:

Any help on how to attack this project. Should I manually import the wall of words from an already made Illustrator file and then just take several words out and animate them or should I create all the words in AFX and attach them to a null or animate a camera instead?

Im just not sure how to approach the massive amount of words that are involved or the camera animation. Any help would be great. Thanks so much!

It’s going to take a lot of work. I would certainly consider several options, such as creating the whole thing in AE.
It sort of depends on how you want it to look. If you don’t mind a rather uniform approach you could even use shatter. There are many ways to do something like this, any and all of what you said was used in the piece you showed.

I would avoid importing anything. The simplest way would be to use AE’s native text layers. I’d set up a few template layers, and once you are happy with the way the words form or how the layers move, clone them a bunch of times and change the source text. Either using the Align & Distribute Panel or expressions should give you enough options. In case you are worried about managing the 3D layers, keep in mind that you can always pre-compose. Using the continuously rasterize/ collapse transformations switch on compositions that contain 3D layers will maintain the 3D-ishness and allow you to fly around them just as with any normal 3D layer.
