3d Flag or Psunami would probably get you what you want.

By making some other solids and putting them on the side. Like making a box – a really thin box.

And there’s always Zaxwerks or several other similar plugins.

    It is very fundamental.
In the render queue, make sure you set your output to something like Quicktime that supports an alpha channel. (The animation codec for Quicktime is quite popular). Make sure that it’s set to render rgb+. (That means rgb plus alpha.)

Then what you render should work just fine in your editing program.

    One way is to:
Make a path in the shape of a circle.
Use text on a path and put text on the path.
    Then create your circle.
    Create a null.
Make the text, circle and the null 3d.
Parent the text to the null.
Animate the rotation of the null to make the text rotate around your circle..
Make another null (and make it 3d too)
Parent the first null to this second one. Rotate this second null to get your text at the angle you desire.

That should do it. There, of course, are other ways.

It’s okay; a good filter, well used, can hide itself. That little extra flair can distract you.

It should be relatively easy to duplicate/emulate this effect. Just drive the z position with a gradient that matches speed with the transition.

There are several reasons I cannot do that. For one thing I do motion graphics for a living, I’m not just going to do somebody else’s work for them for free. For another thing I don’t have any idea what you want it to say, or how you want it to move. Your project, no doubt, is different from this one and needs its own things. I could perfectly recreate this video, but it would be a copyright violation and it wouldn’t be what you need. And finally, in NTSC video there are 30 frames per second, PAL there are 25 frames per second. I’m not sure how I would do 5 seconds or 20 frames.

If you can’t follow the tutorials and suggestions here, you might consider doing something else for this project, taking some time to learn the program more and trying this again when you know After Effects better. Or you could look to see if there are any available freelance artists who you could pay to do this.

  • What version of AE are you using? Look in the documentation for information on the Graph Editor. It lets you edit keyframes using (sorta) bezier curves.

He’s using the Card Wipe effect to move the rectangular pieces around. That should point you in the right direction. You can control the z-depth of the pieces based on another layer i.e., a precomp with a layer of fractal noise.

The first step, he’s telling you to build the multiple screens in photoshop. Make sure they’re all the same size etc.

Then use block dissolve and make sure to have it set so that the blocks are the same size as your pieces.

Precomp that and set up your camera in a way you like.

Apply card wipe to the precomp. Making sure the number of cards matches your number of pieces.

That’s kinda the basics of what he was saying, the rest is just tweaking to get it to look good.

However, there’s a tutorial here on the COW that walks you through this exact same project.

Twitch from VideoCopilot.net would help you if you want to have some of it automated for you.

Otherwise it’s just a lot of playing with distort filters, noise filter, and splitting up channels and distorting them separately. Lots of questions on this forum about destroying or grunging up video. Try a search there are tons of threads on this.

AE can be used to create stereoscopic 3d, as evidenced by this article on turning Nosferatu into a stereoscopic 3d experience to bring it to a new audience. And there are a lot of tricks to making it look like it does 3d effects. But it is not a true 3d program. That would require a complete rewrite of the software and all the lovely compositing and either the motion graphics things it does would go away or the program would be extremely expensive.
