Can you share the project file?

  • You shouldn’t be applying Shine to the Gym wall layer. Apply it to an adjustment layer that’s 2d and the full size of the comp. If you have a moving camera, that’s when you need to link the source point to a 3d light, but the adjustment layer remains 2d.

I see some of your layers are set to guide layers. Are the layers you want to be seeing accidentally set to be guide layers too?

  • Well, that’s a new one to add to the troubleshooting toolkit…

    Thanks for sharing what worked!

  • Are you seeing the incorrect colors in the info panel or is it just when you click to grab the color?

If it’s only when you click, try pressing Enter (or is it Return on Macs?) – anyway, that big-ish button to the right on your keyboard is what you need to hit to commit the color instead of clicking. At least, that’s what’s worked for me.

First step I would do is update the GPU driver to see if it fixes it.

Second step would be seeing if there’s an update for Element.

Third step would be trying it in a different version of AE.

You can make them fall and even bounce on the floor, but they won’t pile up on each other.

Actually, I was thinking about this, you MIGHT be able to do something with AE’s native Particle Playground, but I haven’t messed with that in a while.

You could use AE’s native Shatter effect to make shapes break apart and fall, but they will not interact with each other or pile up.

For piling things up in AE, I’d suggest a plugin like Newton 3 (original and long-standing 2d physics solver for AE), Physics Now (the newcomer), or maybe Stardust (ridiculously full of features 3d particle engine that does physical simulation as well as volume rendering and a bunch of other stuff).

Or, if you don’t mind stepping outside AE, Adobe’s Character Animator has a fun 2d physics solver in it that could do this too.

The new (very improved) controls for cameras are unfortunately a little overly aggressive. If you go into the preferences and turn off the new 3d camera controls, the issue will go away.

The issue may be fixed in the public beta, but I haven’t tested it myself.

I don’t understand why you would want an NLE’s keyboard commands in After Effects since it’s not an NLE. I mean, a lot of the keyboard shortcuts you’d have in an NLE wouldn’t apply to AE at all.

That said, I’ve heard of people with non-migrated stuff fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling.
