  • Without knowing what you mean by “acting weird”, it’s hard to know how to answer you.

Make sure you make the screen of the phone a different piece of geometry with its own material and it should be pretty simple to replace the screen contents with video by making your video layer a custom texture layer.

  • As a test, you can install the CC 2019 version of After Effects alongside the current release to compare if something changed in the new version.

It could just be that your expectation for how fast things should be is out of proportion. I don’t know how slow it actually is or what your experience level with AE is. “Super slow” could be minutes per frame or it could be 10 frames per second depending on your expectations.

AE’s renderer isn’t as multithreaded as it could/should be (yet), so it could just be bottlenecked somewhere. Have you tried changing whether there’s a speed difference rendering software only vs. Metal vs. Open CL?

You would need to light it and add the right materials to it so that it looks as similar as possible to the snow you’ve shot then, in AE, tweak the color matching, shadows, softness, grain, etc. to match.

There’s a channel mixer effect in AE. Have you tried working with it?

I suspect GPU driver issues. Have you tried updating your GPU drivers? If so, what drivers are you using?

If you want to do it in AE, Trapcode Mir can get stuff that looks like this.

That seems weird. Are there any adjustment layers in your comp that could be affecting things?

If not, what color management settings are you using?
