I’m compositing a walking character into snowy footage so that footprints are left behind as the character progresses through the walk cycle.

I’ve made the footprints in Houdini using grains so all the construction is done. [Image attached] How do I now composite this in c4d/AE over the background plate without it looking like an extra object stuck on top. I’m using HDRI environments and colour grading in AE but it’s still hard to blend.

    Ideas very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Christian.

You would need to light it and add the right materials to it so that it looks as similar as possible to the snow you’ve shot then, in AE, tweak the color matching, shadows, softness, grain, etc. to match.
