Most drive have USB and Firewire. I would attach the drive via USB, transfer the footage. The discount the camera and connect the drive via FW. While a little pain to do it this way it should be faster than copying all the footage 2 times.

There is no way of telling if a tape was shot SP vs LP. But with DV if some shoots LP there is a good chance it needs to be played back with that camera. Most of the time DV produces automatically switch to the right settle, do you have a way to force LP playback? But even that, if it was shoot in LP often times you cannot capture from a different camera.Other issues, the heads on the record camera are bad, or just a little out of align. A deck maybe able to capture the tape vs your camera, they are built to a higher standard and can normally accommodate wider tolerances.
So other than trying a difference capture deck, the next thing would be to borrow the camera it was shoot on.

Yeap, you should not be using this codec in editing, you need to use log and transfer to convert them to ProRes. Then if that is not fast enough for you you need to get a faster computer. -
Do you have multiclip playback turned on? How many streams? What codec? what drives? what system? We need details.

Why are you using HDV, that is so wrong.
FIrst you need to convert all the clips to ProRes. Then you need to use a sequence settings that match your clips.
Canon has a pluging, you can use Compressor, Mpeg StreamClip and Red Giant Software has an app called Grinder ($50) to do the conversions.
It is good to learn the workflow of your camera system before jumping into an edit. There are probably a 100 post through out the cow on this.

If you are going to pay someone to professionally encode the movie they are not going to want it encoded to H264 before hand. You need to be giving them a master quality codec such as ProRes. THere is no reason you should not be able to export the movie in one piece.
What are your sequence settings?
What you need to be doing is File>Export> Use Current Setting and make sure “Make self contained” is checked.
There should be no cache with an export, at least if you are exporting it the right way.

Did you have the most current firmware in the 5D so it is shooting 23.98 or is it shooting truly 24p as it originally did?

Well I’m a firm believer in simplifying all the clips multicam. I understand where you are coming from. I think I would sync the audio to cam A, then export this into a new clip. If you use a seq for each clip and match the sequence clip’s TC with the each clip, the export will have the same TC as the original clip. This maybe a pain in the butt, but at least you do it at the start and then no more worries, well there maybe something else to worry about.

I just downloaded it and it is working fine, rendered and played back the clip. I’m have tried DV footage. Have you tried another project with different clips?
THis is one cool piece of software!.
