data flow ingesting to FCP
Hi. I have a 17″ macbook pro with FCP. When editing I will have my media on an ext HD attatched via the firewire port. My quiestion is : to get the video onto the HD from my camera I need to use the FW port. So do I attatch the camera via firewire, load the footage onto the computer, then detatch the camera, attatch the HD to the firewire port, transfer footage from macbook to the hd, then delete off the macbook? Is there a way I can go straight from the camera to the ext HD even though there is only one firewire port? Thanks

Most drive have USB and Firewire. I would attach the drive via USB, transfer the footage. The discount the camera and connect the drive via FW. While a little pain to do it this way it should be faster than copying all the footage 2 times.

You have a 17″ Mac book pro your BEST optioon is to NOT edit with a FireWire drive. Get a esata express card and use a media drive connected via esata.
Esata is MUCH faster.
