You are converting the footage anyway, upscale the 720p to 1080 or downscale the 1080 to 720, edit a common format.

#3 can be done Compressor also. Framerate in Video settings is set to 23.978 and then in Frame Controls> retiming pane> play source footage at 23.

While I question apple’s thinking in today’s announcement there is nothing that should worry us. They have add features (one’s that I don’t really want) but they have not taken anything away. There is no reason for any app to jump ship because of what was said today. It was a yawn but nothing troubling. Other than once again Steve taking shots at optical drives (one day no computer will have them) but even that doesn’t scare me.

But I’m sure all the hollywood movie trailer editors are updating their resumes. Joking but that is a pretty cool feature for the average joe.

Noah, are you finding this to be a workflow for Interlaced HD or just progressive. I found that you great the field order shift if you are not careful with down convert.

How long was the upgrade from CS4 to CS5, How many professional Adobe user refused to upgrade to CS4 (they seem to got it right with CS5)

What is the refresh cycle for AVID?

Yes right now these apps are newer and fresher than FCP but as Shame says 2011 would be the time we expect to see the new versions of stuff. If in Sept of 2011 nothing has happened with FCS then let the bitching and jumping begin.

AVID and Adobe are not hardware companies, they don’t make smart phones, that don’t develop OSs. They make apps and their refresh cycle is still about 2 years between major upgrades.

you will have a ton of playback issues with the bitrates you listed, even if it helps with quality it will not help with playback. It will stutter on a lot of players.

Excellent and cheap is an oxymoron, especially with audio. I have the Zoom H4n and the MicroTrackII both have audio out that could be plugged into the camera with a RCA to mini adapter. Overall I think the Juicedlink would be easier all around.

QT Pro is a very useful program, have done the copy and paste thing many times.

What are your capture settings? Been a long time since I captured a tape but this sounds like a setting mismatch. Use the DV easy setup. Post your capture settings.

    [Sherwin Akbarzadeh] “Two Pass VBR
    average bit rate: 7.7
    max bit rate: 9”

That will cause a ton of playback issue way too high, even the average is too high.

With high average bitrates I always recommend using CBR over VBR, every time.
If you are burn the project onto a DVD-R never go over 7.5Mbps for CBR
    or
    7.0Mbps MAX for VBR

Audio needs to be ac3 if video is this high. (it should be ac3 for most things anyway)

Make sure you are encoding as progressive and not interlaced. You can try to turn on Frame Control and turn to best.

HD DVD is for a dead format and can only be played back on fast Macs.

if your clips are the same lengths, what about copying and pasting audio tracks 3-8 into the new clips. I have done this in QT Pro 7.
