That is not the recommended shutter speed, it would be better to use 1/50, less motion blur and is similar to a 180 degree shutter.Why not post a frame. But are you shooting side by side?

The 500 is not the camera to get, it is throwing money away if you want to do video get the 550. You will have to add pull down to get it up to 24fps. At least get the 550 that does all the video frame rates. 30 or 24p in 1080 or 60 in 720.
The 60D is even better but that is big jump and you are getting feature differences and not that much quality difference.

First you don’t try every codec, you use the one that matches you HD clips. Then the sequence matches the clip also.
1440×1080 HD is a thin raster codec, in FCP it is not a square pixel resolution.
So what are the specs of the footage you are trying to match. Is it HDV at 1440×1080 or something else at 1920×1080?

Did you copy the card in full to a HD or are you trying to go from the P2 card in the camera to Log and Transfer in FCP?

DV-NTSC is 4:1:1 and then m2v is 4:2:0. But if Brandon is committed to the extra work that would give better photo montage but the video would be the same quality.

IF you are placing them into a DV sequence, I would export them out as that. If you use a higher resolution they will have to eventually be rendered to the DV codec anyway.

what do you mean by that. If your project is wrong, every copy will be wrong.This can be several things, you made a mistake in encoding or authoring, we don’t know what you did so we cannot help you unless you post info.

Your DVD player is set wrong. If you image looks like it is squish into a 4:3 box, everything is tall and skinny on the software player (and in simulator) you are doing something wrong. If it looks right on the computer but wrong on a player it maybe the player’s settings.

If the footage was shot as Progressive why did you edit it as interlaces?But for better quality try sending the sequence from FCP to Compressor directly.
FCP Export (with Compressor) or FCP7 Send (to Compressor)Use a CBR encoding instead of the VBR method.
Use 7 Mbps for the bitrate and use ac3 for the audio.Do a test with on 10 minutes of the sequence with the most movement in the video.
The send to/export with takes longer to encode but the CBR method offset the encoding time and it should give you a much better encode from HDV.

As others has said, you need to learn the proper workflow, this has been gone over time and time again on every FCP forum out there.
But even with that, FCP is not the best tool for every job. Right now Vegas and Premiere are fast to work with on certain projects. If you have them and they are faster and they do the job use them. You don’t have to use FCP for every project.
