actually it is a “moo” point, please see Joey’s explaination on Friends. English has never been one of my strong points, just wish it has the only language I know, well kind of know.

On the new intel systems I have read the fill the RAM slots with matching size DIMMs increases the access speed and is highly recommended. So (2) 512s are better than (1) 1GB. But doesn’t make sense not to have at least 1 GB,

A folder with a question mark is a OS problem, try reinstalling the OS. The fact you can start up from the CD give more proof to this.

BTW – This would be better posted in the Apple OS forum and not within a unrelated thread.

I figured it out, it has been so long since I edited to tape and operated a DBeta deck but got it working like a charm.

Just to throw in me 2cents, I just got a Toshiba 20″ tube TV and they had a 16:9 mode and they cost under $200. Great for editing, okay for basic (but not critical) color correction if you take the time to adjust them right.

John, you miss my point, if you just want a 16:9 DV25 camera you don’t need anything other then the out of box camera. It still uses the same tapes so you can put off buying all the extra stuff

Even if I had no immediate plans to shoot HD I would pay the extra $2K and get just HVX camera which gives you a 16:9 DVX right out of the box, no accessories needed. Then you can shoot HD anytime you want to by adding cards or a drive. (Not to mention DVCPro50). You get so much longevity with the HVX I

May 27, 2006 at 9:37 pm in reply to: Cheap raid solutions for HD work

I’m editing 8 concerts shot with (6) HDCAM and I’m editing with multicam with the footage captured as DVCProHD. I built my own Raid system with SATAII drives and cards. Sonnet Fusion 400 enclosure with (4) 300 GB drives and I just swap out drive sets when one is close to 70% full. I get 250Mb/s read speed and have no problem pulling the 6 streams. Of course you put 500 or 750 drives if you need more capacity at a time.

If I wanted to I could recapture the show in HDCAM while picture was locked as Uncompressed HD and everything would work fine.

NOTE: 2hrs of 10 Bit HD would be about 1.2 GB.

So it is all doable, for about $1500 you can make it work.

May 20, 2006 at 8:08 pm in reply to: New FCP System (looking for suggestions)

You left out the most important fact, what format(s) do you want to delivery the final in? And then the second question is what codec was the film (I would assume DV/DVCAM but it would be better to know for sure) captured in.

Do you have a budget? A new mac mini will smoke your desktop.
