You will have to zoom in and use the distort/aspect ratio in the Motion tab of that footage to match.
This would be better to be done in Compressor and use Frame Control, resize set to best. This will take a lot longer to transcode but the results should be better. This is a heavy enlargement of the footage. If you are not in prefect focus and excellent exposure you are going to be in trouble. Shoot 4:3 Letterbox is the worst setting you can have. IMO.

Why did I think your first post was in the FCP forum, there goes my mind again. (CRAP, it is in the FCP forum, I have totally lost my mind!)
Well problem with DVDSP is that it floats between an amateur and professional tool set. The in-house menus are for amateurs (not saying a person is not a professional if they use them, but most professional will not) Quality really sucks with them and I would not use them for any other than a quick screener copy. When authoring a real DVD I would always build it in PS or Motion, for me it is normally quicker and a lot less frustrating.
Also it needs to be understood that DVDSP is a dead program when it comes to being worked on. It is still and active app but it has not seen any real improvement since FCP5 days. If fact most of us just what some of the useless features removed (HD DVD is on the top of that list). I doesn’t see this changing in the up coming version of FCS. So best thing to do is to use the out side apps and in the end it will look a lot better and your life will be less stressful.

DVDSP is for authoring DVDs which are highly compressed SD mpeg2 movies.
If you file is under 4.3GB you can just burn in on a DVD as data, you use toast or a simple finder burn. You DO NOT author it to a DVD.
2pop goes 2 seconds before the first frame.

you should but looking at the Panasonic AJ-PCD35 which uses an express PCI card or Panasonic AJ-PCD20 which uses FW800. The device you have is the slowest thing next to the camera. The PCI card will give you the fastest transfer at this time. There is also a device by Sonnet Qio (but I have not used it)
The new USB reader is also on the slow side.

You really need to upgrade to an Intel Mac, you are going to be doing a ton of transcoding with any camera you go with. I’m assume you are not on an Intel since you are using FCP5, I maybe wrong.
These cameras are NOT video cameras in there operation. While everyone loves the look and the pricing they are not for every situation. You need to tell us what type of shooting you are going.
Before asking questions it is always a good idea to read through what is already out there. Then ask specific questions that you still have. If you do you will fine this forum heavily weighted towards Canons but that seems to be changing. The D7000 and especially the Panasonic GH2 are getting a lot of focus now (and for good reason). There are also a ton of DSLR sites with active reviews of every camera out there. Check out https://philipbloom.net/blog/ he is a great resource and reviews a lot of cameras. He also links to a bunch of other people.

Your are correct, your choices are. live with crap or make your own. There is not much else to say.

codec of the camera is not compatible with editing in FCP, you need to transcode them to ProRes, many many post about how to do that.

You can move the jpeg to V2 and place a color Matte in V1 and change the color to anything you want.

You can convert to any delivery codec you need to, whether it should be h264 depends on what you are doing.
