I don’t think there is that much difference if you balance gray vs white but with white people tend to pick up any old thing that is “white” but most white things have a color tint to them. So if you use a “calibrated” gray card it would be more actuate but if you picked up and old gray thing you would have the same issue. Same would be true if you used a true white card vs a white piece of paper.
I don’t think you ever go wrong with doing a true white balance. If you have the time I would stick with that. But in the end do some test and see what you like.

This will not a production system until it is fully tested and its stability is confirmed.

That you have the time to put into debugging a system like this.
That your saving is not eaten up by time away from a paying project.There is a guy in Nashville that is big on building these but I have not heard from him in a while but he was building these for FCS.
If you need a system to be up and running quickly I think it is crazy to try.

WOW, their pricing is more convoluted then Adobe’s upgrade paths. But they seem reasonable.. Seth try that free app they have on there site and they have an interesting article that maybe hitting your problem on the head…

For a quick fix – back the slomo clip. Export it as Self Contained w/ Current Settings and then bring that back into timeline to replace the slomo clip.
When you render is everything gray or do you have green in the timeline?

This is NOT true for his situation. His bottleneck is rendering, which has very little to do with disc speed. You can run Uncompressed HD on a G5 if you have fast enough HDs, but drop any filter on it and it will choke. Add Denoise to that footage and go get lunch or dinner while it renders. The poster whats to speed up RENDERING which is PROCESSOR, if you are looking at getting more streams, then yes you look at DRIVE SPEED. Compressor is the other processor-centric app, disc speed only plays a little in it.
Fred can spend his money anyway he likes but he will not see much bang for his buck, in this case. IMO

Dude, I’m not recommending that it be done with copying to the HD, If I were to make copies of 125 disc I would get a 2nd Drive and use Toast Copy feature which acts like a duplicator. No copying to the HD. I offered this as a balance of speed and cost.

Or do dual system sound. Record the audio to something that is not mobile and have a real audio guy manning it. Much cheaper but it adds just a little extra work in post but that goes quickly unless you are starting and stopping all the time.

Canon has a website, they have all their models and specs on there.
Full sensor is not the end all and be all. It has its advantages for sure but crop sensors are not junk and the 60D is close to a third of the price of a 5D.

There is nothing that delivers the quality of SD as easily or as cheaply as a DVD. There is nothing archaic about the format. If you need HD then you have Bluray or cheap video players. But once about there is nothing that comes close to the quality of a disc for distribution.
In this case the problem was not the medium but your lack of knowledge in how to prepare your disc.
There are options out there already but you need to know what a particular venue can accept.
As for brands, the stuff to stay away from is most of the stuff sold at retail stores especially their store brands. Ordering in bulk from a media vender is cheaper for quality media.
I use Maxell Plus Series but Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are also highly regarded. I recommend getting 8x vs 16x for burning in DVDSP. With good media, proper bitrate limits and ac3 audio MOST of the playback issue will go away.
