Hope you don’t mind me asking a similar question here.

I want to do a live record of a line cut from a multi-cam shoot. I want this to be used as a batch capture list so I need to be logging as it is capturing. All the cameras will be recorded to tape and then captured later using this logging info. Would the VTR program work for this or would it be better to do something like this from within FCP.

To use the transition you need handles on the clip which probably no longer exists on the clip that has been sent to motion. So you could just pull the original clip in FCP up a track and give it handles on both sides of the clip, sent it to Motion and then drop in into the hole so it has the extra frames need to do a transition. Or a fade up from black can be done with changing the opacity of the end of the out going clip and in coming clip. The latter needs to be rendered to play back.

Didn’t read the post very well 🙁

Panasonic has a 5 bay P2 reader but it is about $2K

It would be nice to see more Firewire options that are in the $100-200 range.

I normally send the clip from the timeline with the speed already changed. When the Save As comes up I uncheck the Embed “Motion” Content.

Then render the clip set to Best and with the same codec that my FCP project is.

Then I import the new clip and replace it in the time line. Normally put it on V2 and just disable the orginal clip on V1 so it is still there if I need to make a change later.

Duel Adapter is the company that makes the adapter. It works like a champ. I always copy the complete content (will exact file structure and last clip file) to a hard drive from the card and then import via Log and Transfer into FCP.

Slo mo in FCP is pretty bad, and just send the clip to Motion then render the speed change within Motion3 make sure Optical Flow is turned on when you render and you should get a really smooth looking Slo mo.

You will need to import the clip back into FCP and not use the motn project file.

HD formats are always 16:9, which for some reason Panasonic labels Squeeze, this can only be changed with SD settings.

There are also keyboards and key replacement sets that have all the basic shortcuts on them. Great way to learn as you go.

Bella and Logic are two companies that I know of. I like and have the Logic one.

Why not play out of the camera into a DVD recorder with the TC playing on screen.
