There is no way a HPX200 or 500 is going to live up to a highend HD camera, nor should anyone expect it to. After all, look at the cost of HD lenses that are being put on Varicams, F900 and now the HPX3000, they cost more than what most people are paying for an entire HPX500 setup, no way is it going to be as good. But the question is what can you afford and well that do well enough for your needs. Get the best camera you can afford that meets your needs.

I have the HPX200, love it, clients love it, have used the 500 a couple of times and it offers some much needed improvements, what better with low light, bigger lenses but that comes at a much higher price, when I can afford a 500 I plan to buy one.

Why do you need to upgrade, is the card not working or not meeting your expectations? If that card is working I would just keep the system as a stand alone encoding station and encode the files on a firewire drive that can be moved to your new system.

FWIW – I have configured my internal drives as such. Small 250GB system drive for just the OS and software. A much bigger drive for Time Machine (750 GB) a catch all drive to more files around (750GB) the 4th slot is open and I swap out different drives as needed.

    I then you a 10-bay Raid 0 media drive.

I have the apple 23″ hooked up to the Kona3’s SDI signal via the Decklink HDLink, which is an SDI to DVI. What love to know if anyone has compared this solution to the MXO, I don’t see it ever offered as a solution but if you have the card already it is a $1300 solution.

Don’t know if your card has SDI out.

take another look at the aja website, there is the main Io which does digital and analog SD or the Io LA which does analog SD.

I have been using the adapter with Leopard and no major problems. One thing that happens a lot is when I eject the card’s mounted drive the adapter itself is turned off, but all I need to do is to remove the adapter and reinsert and it works. No restart needed.

Deleted the waveform cache folder seemed to fit the problem.

Weird thing was it came to be watching Shane’s Cow DVD on organization and he was talking about setting the scratch disc and I just saw the set wf cache button and thought hey I wonder…

I have the original 8-core with 9GB of RAM, with a homemade 10-Bay Sata array, test out at over 400 Mbps.

Also have a Kona3 card which should help with the DVCProHD.

I have never really even looked at this before but in System Settings prefs Memory Usage is set to – Application – 100% (2560MB) and Still Cache I upped to 50% (1205MB) seems like there is a lot of memory not available to FCP.

Thanks, I think capturing with TC (yes there would be a TC Gen) without logging would be more time saving than logging without capturing.

Another side question, has anyone used this device? AEC-mBOX-2 It is $400
