It would probably be easiest to work in segments.
How was the TC recorded, free run or record run? If free run you can make a new video file that merges all the tapes for a single camera. You do this by making the TC of the timeline match the TC of the clip then you lay in the other capture tapes at there TC so there will be blank windows but if this is done for each camera and cameras had tape changes at different times the windows are in different places but you can just have one multicam clip and only have to do the in point sync one time. But this only works with free run timecode.

Please don’t take this as me coming down on you, I know stuff like this would make me crazy but a lot of people preach about redundancy of stoage, for both protection and the ability to keep going in a crunch. I kind of take this one step further, most (not all) full time editors, especially freelances should have a redundant system. If one goes down they have another one in the wings. This may seem like a waste of money but a second system can be used more than most people think, I do a lot of my DVD authoring on my laptop MBP and while it is encoding I’m editing or doing something else on my Mac Pro. I also have an older G5 in the wings (give to my son) that I can pull in if things go south.
This is just something to think about, but I hope you do get back up and running asap.

yeap, fw 400 is all that is needed. No need to update to FCP6 if you still with DVCProHD FCP 5.1.2 and up did fine with it. I think the .4 really got things solid.
FCP6 has some great features as well as the other programs that comes with it and is worth it in my opinion but it is not a must have to do my job deal.

Either would work if you capture as native DVCProHD. To convert to ProRes you need to come in SDI (although I think some people have gotten conversion to work through FW, I have not tried). But non Intel Mac Pros have trouble converting on the fly to ProRes with a card, the AJA Io would give you for sure results since it does the conversion before it gets to the computer. Also ProRes is FCP 6 only were as DVCProHD will work under FCP5
ProRes will hold up a bit better with graphics and CC if you use 10 bit but DVCProHD is a great compromise between quality and disc space. About 1/2 the size of PR (HQ) in 720P.

Did you do a “organize P2” on the firestore before you tried to transfer the files?

the other thing that should be mentioned is that the original files (mxf) and the QT import should not be kept on the same drive.

Panasonic just announced the 200A but I didn’t see a ship date, has improvement especially low light, which is great. Also if you don’t need tape look at the new 170 it is P2 only and has HD SDI out. I have only shoot 2 tapes in my 200 in 18 months. I would probably get that camera, it will most likely have a 5 year warranty also. Unless not having a camera was going to cost me more money than renting one I would try to wait for the new versions.
