Quiet day
Posted by Walter Biscardi on April 14, 2008 at 10:52 pmLooking at all the press releases, it was a quiet day all around. Apple, Avid and Adobe. In fact really didn’t see much of anything notable in the way of NAB announcements today. Doesn’t look like I missed a whole lot by staying here.
I might have to attend the “Final Cut World Tour” when they hit Atlanta to ask where the BluRay support is.

April 15, 2008 at 4:00 amI was walking around NAB this morning at it seemed more like a Wednesday at past NABs than a Monday. Fun, but not the big buzz and hype.
But then I discovered that RED is showing Color in there booth and they were grading R3D files natively! They were showing it as a “technology preview.” They also showed importing R3D files through Log and Transfer. They said it would be shipping later this year. (probably just in time for Christmas:)
This is really, really big news for many people.

What do you think about announcement of the Matrox MXO2 for $1595. It sounds like a mini IOHD for half the price.

April 15, 2008 at 4:48 amThat looks great but I cannot find how it connects to the Mac. I know the MXO is by DVI.

April 15, 2008 at 5:16 amIt was not apparent to me either. I’m guessing it has to be firewire 800, but that’s just a guess. I’ll se if I can find out tomorrow and report back.

April 15, 2008 at 6:08 amThere is a multi-pin connector on the side that connects to an Express34 card. This adapter comes with the MXO2.
Only problem I see is with connecting it to the MacBook Pro I will no longer be able to use my eSATA drives which also hook up thru the Express34 card slot. Also, you hook up the monitor via an HDMI connection. This box has no DVI port on it. A mistake in my opinion, albeit still a cool box. An HDMI to DVI adapter would be necessary to connect it to a cinema display I guess.
