Take a look at Media Manager, it will do this for you and you can even add handles to the Ins and Outs if you wish.

I remember seeing that (or something like that) at NAB a couple of years ago. Very expensive for a piece of software but in the end it might be worth it now that there are more ways to use it. Need to look into it again.

You are barking up the wrong tree here. No matter is you agree with it you are violating Apple’s copyright agreement. Only one machine can run (or have open) any of the FCS applications. If you don’t want to buy seats for each system, then live with yelling “hey I need to use FCP whoever has it open please quit it.”

And request like this is why some software companies resort to using dongles to protect their software and cause a big pain in the neck for the rest of us.

I’m not a big fan of 3-hour long capture to a QT file, if some thing goes wrong the entire file is gone.
If your cameras are all locked down I would rent firestores FS100 and capture 720p 24 with the FS set to 24PN (not the camera) and you get over 4 hours of continuous recording. The other option would be to rent P2 cards and shot 720p24pN and you just need (2) 32GB and (1) 16GB card per camera. All that can be rented for about $100-150/day/camera.
Edit the show in DVCProHD 720p23.98 and then with the IoHD cross-convert to whatever is needed. 1080i 29.97 to HDCAM.

SORRY, just realized my huge typo, I meant SELF-CONTAINED, I used a ref movie one time and I changed the name of the fold they were in and everything got messed up. also self-contained.
I’ve done it many times. Works like a charm. Most fixes take a bit of time (not eons) but I have found that if you take an hour on the front end and do a fix the right way you are not fighting it the whole time and you end up spending hours. Not saying my way is the only right way but in the end it is a rock solid solution.

If the camera was on free run and not rec run here is what I do.
Make a seq and lay in the first clip in. Match the seq’s TC to the Clip’s, then lay in the 2nd clip so the TC lines up. This will create a gap where the camera was stopped. Export this will current settings (not self-contained) and use this in your multicam clip.
This really helps if all the cameras were TC locked but it give a solid video clip with an easy way to check for other breaks and bypasses the need to do any math, which is always a good thing.

[Thomas Edinger] “720p mpeg4” This is not a DVD compatible format, there is no reason you should be exporting to this format. I know that was not your question or problem but you going an extra step that reduces quality if that is not your footage’s format.
I don’t use iDVD but one thing I would try is to put the first play as a movie file before it goes to the menu. Even if it is just a sec on black video that then end jumps to the menu. but I don’t even know if that is an option in iDVD.

The video should normally be set in DVDSP as 16:9 Letterbox, it is displaying correctly as Pan and Scan but unless you program was shot and edited with that in mind you normally lose important info. Letterbox is the most used conversion for 4:3 TV.
The option (3) Pan&Scan or Letterbox leaves the conversion up to the end viewer and it determined by how they set the DVD Players preferences up.
