The sample is a lot more narrow than 16:9 letterboxing. But Eoin needs to keep the DVD 16:9 or else the image will swim if displayed on a 16:9 TV with black bars all around. You still want the left and right sides to be all the way across a 16:9 tv and the only way get this is to keep the footage as 16:9 that has been masked top and bottom.

SD Video has just 2 ratios, 4:3 and 16:9 anything you see like this is normally 16:9 with a black mask that puts black bars top and bottom. This is the most Hollywood are released on DVD, they are still just 16:9 masked to give the shame aspect as displayed in theaters. FCP has these mask built into the Widescreen filters.

[Randall Wilson] “Change to correct tape format” Is the deck giving you this error, seems like the deck is not set up properly. Will the deck even handle 30p footage?

One question. Are you sure your movie file’s TC actually starts at 00:00:00;00 and not 01:00…
If you export a movie from a default FCP timeline the TC would start at 01:00… an exported movie takes on the TC of the timeline unless you have gone in and changed it.

There is no set it to this answer. You need to at least tell us what the delivery goals are, client wants the best quality and file will be on the hard drive or the movie will be posted on the web and needs to be streamed?
But Compressor has some presets that can give you good starting points.

It seems like DVDSP has a problem with Roll up and it is recommended that you use Pop On for CC.

A dvd does not care about the TC but an encoder changing TC would cause problems with subtitle import and chapter marker list. I would think this is something should be fixed on the software.

This has been covered many times on this forum, search dvd@ccess and you will find the answer. There is also a manual with the software.
The short answer is you can add a web link, they do not work very well on Windows system.

Don’t know about the CalD card but the Sonnet is a mulitport so you can hook up 5 drives per port. The speed is bottlenecked by the card/bus so it is not like running a 5 drive array on a desktop but it is an option that I needed to take advantage of a couple of times.
