The main point I thought I was making is there is no 24i as in 48 fields that have a different timing between field A and B.

You do not rotate your footage, you rotate your monitor as Dave said. Video in always horizontal but if you turned your camera 90 deg. then turn your monitor 90 deg. it will be displayed correctly.

First box (bigger) is action safe, anything you want to be assured to be viewable needs to be inside the. Second box is title safe, you normally want all the graphics and texts to be within this box.

Your thinking is wrong, your image should always fill the entire canvas. If a final DVD is viewed on a computer it will show the entire images so going to shoots that do not fill the area will be jarring.

99% of the time this is because you are making a HD DVD. Even if you m2vs are encoded correctly as SD m2vs if you select HD DVD the disc will only play back on Macs. If this is what you did you need to start the authoring over.

Use compressor to convert all the Non DV PAL to DV PAL 720×576, 16:9, 25FPS

Don’t know what DRT is but if the DVR is not recording TC and does not have deck control you need to set the device control to “Uncontrollable” and then use Captured Now.

The other thing that it could be is if the box is a cable DVR and has copy protection embedded FCP will not copy it.

First do you have FW800? Some 13″ do and some don’t (I think)

if you go with full size drives you can get 500GB for under !30.

No matter what your budget is you will not be able to edit ProRes HD off the internal HD. You may have a shoot on getting it to work on a FW400 or USB2 port but you will probably get a lot of dropped frames.

Hd DVD are a format all I. Itself. You need a discontinued hd DVD player to play the disc. If you have he newest FCS (2009) you can make bluray disc with fcp and compressor. Other then that you get get a video device that plays hd movie Western Digital has some inexpensive devices with hdmi out that plays h264 hd files

you will need to transcode the AVCHD into ProRes within FCP. You should never use your internal hard drive for media and there is not way you will not have issue with ProRes HD. You need to get a external FW drive. If you computer does not have FW you are going to be fighting using FCP the entire way.
