You should be doing this in Compressor. You make a QT movie of your timeline, drop it into Compressor and set up the 3 presets. IMO there is no reason to make QT and WVM versions of the H264. H264 will playback on either platform.

Compressing is something you have to test and get a feel for.

You cannot edit or color correct H264 footage. It has to be transcode before you start editing.

For real, I have a friend that has remapped most of his keys, and if I’m every there is a madden. I have trouble remembering the standard ones. I hit the “l” key 10 times before I stop cursing and asking what FCP will not play the timeline.

You have Compressor with FCP, that is what it is there for.

Most things are mapped or can be remapped to the keyboard. But there would be a ton of keystrokes to memorize. The more keyboard editing you can do the faster you will be but I don’t know of anyone that is no mouse or graphic tablet.

You can see what everything in FCP is mapped to and then remap things you find missing. You have to be willing to put in a lot of time to get it setup and learned.

I do think the auto upconvert is a bad thing, it is a great feature but I would want to turn it off. If I was using a HVX or HPX I shoot 720p so I would want the Canon at the same resolution. But I would say this is probably why the longer times since it is going more.

You should try the same test with 1080p, my guess is that is what most people are shooting.

Nobody emails files anywhere near that size. In fact for email 5MB is normally the cut off.

Even that site will not take a file that big. Most of these keep of places have subscriptions for bigger files but they are normally pretty slow compared to an FTP site.

You need a really fast upload on your end to even think about doing this. Without the fast connection can be well over an hour for a GB.

Is the other person finishing or editing the video. Sending master quality via internet is not a normal thing. At least not for me. I would recommend putting that on media and sending it.

If you are in FCP, then it is because you are using an unsupported codec. H264 needs to be transcoded before you edit with it.
