I don’t have an external monitor, I would love to get that Marshall, would be great to use with my HVX also.

But I have a 2.5x Z-Finder and use the digital mag on my t2i. Find that even for a dark scene I can see the edges well enough to focus. Of course you can only do this when you are not recording unlike video cameras that allow for the focus assist when recording.

The more expensive lens has a better IS and has the tripod mount on the lens as standard.

If I had the money I would get the IS II lens but if I didn’t I wouldn’t regret getting the $1900 one either.

The camera is not shooting true 24fps, it is 23.976fps or rounded to 23.98 fps.

There is a new version of the IS which is the highest priced, it has a special tripod mode for the IS, which smooths out pans. The old version does not have this.

For handholding even with a shoulder rig, IS is a must especially for the longer lenses. The extra for the tripod IS mode, while it is nice and useful it is not as important as the normal IS.

DSLRs bodies are cheap, making them work for video is not. Plan to spend 2-5K on lenses and accessories.

That is the square conversion from 720×480 anamorphic but normally you go down instead of you 720×405 (not 270 as I had it before the edit) might give you better results. But the question that has to be asked is why are you going to a square version of a codec that is meant for broadcast or editing?

you can nest that seq in another seq and then apply a filter and adjust it.

Transcend seems to be the card of choice. They are also the lest expensive of the recommended cards. I use Toshiba Class 4 and have never had a problem even though they recommend class 6, my next cards will be Transcend.

I wonder if you have an issue with your camera. While compressing a image with camera in motion would take more processing power it should not effect the write speed.

Best option is to give them a H264 HD file that they can play off a computer.

A bluray disc is another good. keeping in HD would always be better.

You cannot get one lens to cover 24-200 you have to do it with 2 lenses. If you need that coverage you should not be using DSLRs. I have been looking at the 24-105 f4 IS lens. for a solid all around lens but I also have fast primes if I need faster glass. So if you had the 24-105 you could get the 70-200. The other thing you have to keep in mind is that still zoom lenses don’t work the same as video lens. If you are in focus at one end and zoom you my not be in zoom when zoomed out.

DSLR is really for film-like production, where you can move the camera or change the lens.
