yes but with a lot of limitations.
A/B editing, footage on a FW800 drive.
No way to have external monitors. But for basic editing it will be fine. Not sure if Color or Motion will work at all with the graphic card or chip it has.
FCP, Compressor and DVDSP should be okay.

I don’t think most people realize that most of the time there is nothing coming out of the rear speakers on Hollywood movies. Which adds to the impact of when there IS something there.

Log and Transfer is what you want and not Log and Capture. But only curtain cameras and formats are supported. If yours is not you will need to just copy the video files over to your HD and then convert them with compressor or Streamclip to a edit friendly codec, such as ProRes.

Well if it is 1080i it is not progressive, if there is pulldown there has to be redundant and interlaced frame.
How did you do the removal? Compressor? How are you monitoring it? If you delivery is DVD and the web you want to be editing 24p. This needs to be done before you start editing.

Your movie IS 16:9, the image within that space maybe 4:3 but you are editing 16:9.What was the framerate of the 16mm, what pulldown method did they use. For best quality the pulldown should be removed to get the footage back to progressive.
You cannot judge quality of the video within FCP, you need an external monitor to see what you actually have. If you can only use FCP’s canvas it has to be set to 100% or else it is throwing away 1/2 the scanlines which is why it finds a lot of these type of problems.

Never use QT to judge things like this, that should display properly in FCP. 1440x is a “thin” raster and FCP scales it to the true 1920×1080 on playback. Is the the raster your camera records at? It maybe better to covert it to full raster while you are doing the conversion.

What was the f/stop of the lenses set to?
Also most of those small camcords have auto gain and can go as high as +18dB. So you have to shoot them side by side and compare the quality.
ISO for DVD/BluRay is the wrong thinking. Especially for DVD you do want the video to be as low noise as possible but proper exposure is still the most import, you have to learn the balance of the camera. Meaning properly exposed footage with iso 800 will look better than underexposed footage at 400.

Well I use FCP and I have never needed to stretch one stream to match the other. If you are shooting correctly that is a step that should never be done. Lining up clapper spikes is super easy and quick. Pluraleyes really comes in handy if you have a a lot of short clips and no clapper or if one camera is stopping and stopping and the other is running continuously. You can still match up the waveform but the spike makes it so much quicker.
Have any of you PC guys tried DualEyes? The replace audio in movie seems like it would be a great feature. Of course movie files should be backed up before doing anything like that. But that would really make the editing process cleaner.

Blackmagic has the cheapest card with HDMI out. But the MXO2 Mini w/ Max gives the added benefit of speeding up H264 exports.

You can media manage the sequence and it will export a separate clip for each clip on the timeline.
